v7.4.32 is now available on the 'download all' page. It installs and runs OK (64-bit Windows), but I don't use the backup project setting. Any testers?

Howdy Folks,

We have a new build out that should address quite a few issues that were
discovered after the public release.

Fixes should include:
* Attaching to World Community Grid
* Back-up projects (0 Resource Share)
* Suspending GPUs should not suspend Bitcoin Miners
* Improved error message handling for app_config.xml parsing errors
* Better detection of notice updates (reduces the number of system notifications)
* Should ignore VirtualBox installer errors and proceed with BOINC installation
* Updates to OpenSSL(1.0.1j) and LibCurl(7.39.0)

Outstanding issues:
* Certain locales with certain types of characters are causing a crash in the manager

This is a release candidate.

Please report your test results as quickly as possible to: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/alpha/test_form.php

Please report any bugs to boinc_alpha@ssl.berkeley.edu.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Richard,

I would love to test it, but WCG sent monster BETA's to my machines containing 1 single job in a Workunit, so no checkpointing and running now 14 hours and 50% progress.
Will see tomorrow ;-)

Done! I only tested this issue and can confirm that it's fixed. I set resource share zero for PG before and updated the project with the old client. With 1 idle core:

Just a message to tell you that "Suspend GPUs" doesn't work in version 7.4.32, GPU still work after selection.

I haven't received any notices since I went to 7.4.27 and 7.4.32. I have 8 machines running XP3, windows 7 and windows 8.1. I looked at boinc/data/notices and I have some 12.5.2014 entries mainly feeds and archives. I turned on debug notices, but all i see in message log is:

OFFICE

41102 12/5/2014 6:19:24 PM NOTICES::write: seqno 0, refresh false, 0 notices
41103 12/5/2014 6:19:34 PM NOTICES::write: seqno 0, refresh false, 0 notices
41104 12/5/2014 6:19:44 PM NOTICES::write: seqno 0, refresh false, 0 notices
41105 12/5/2014 6:19:54 PM NOTICES::write: seqno 0, refresh false, 0 notices

Are there other flags I need to turn on?

Any ideas.

Without knowing what projects you added, it's a tad difficult to say something about it. Perhaps your projects haven't put out any notices in the past 30 days.

Across the eight computers I run every known project that is still active according to BAM. Surely there would be a notice from one of them in the last 30 days. Why are there current days (12/5/2014} project, feeds and archives in the boinc data Notices folder? Why is there a project folder and an archive for that project with the date of 12/5/2014? Are the feeds suppose to show in notice tab?

BOINC doesn't check for new notices all the time. The time between checks is defined by projects, I guess the default is one day. See <poll_interval> in notices/feeds.xml . If you want BOINC to fetch new notices right now, just restart it.

You should see something like this when BOINC checks for new notices:

[notice] start fetch from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/notices.php?userid=x&auth=y
[notice] handling reply from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/notices.php?userid=x&auth=y
[notice] parsed RSS feed: total 4 error 0 added 0

Does any of the xml files in notices directory have any notices in them. Seti seems to have notices online so do you have anything from them?

Yes I have these messages, but for project charity. It looks like it doesn't check anything else. Here is the event log after restart of Boinc: Seti has a message in notices folder.

I have upgraded from 7.2.42 to version 7.4.32 and can confirm that the zero share bug I experienced in version 7.4.27 is fixed in this version.

BOINC 7.4.34 has been released for testing, but it still contains the bug where you suspend GPU and although all shows GPU is suspended, the computation continues. So do not use 7.4.34 if you're struck by that bug.

Seems some of the text for the Boinc 7.4.35 changelog is missing in Message 58529:

The full text:

client: fix bug where GPU jobs non suspended

There was a bug where, when you suspend GPU activity,
GPU jobs show as suspended but are not actually suspended.
This was because of recent changes to distinguish GPU and non-GPU coprocs.
Change things so that coprocs are by default GPUs.
If you want to declare a non-GPU coproc in your cc_config.xml,
you much put <non_gpu/> in its <coproc> element.

No, that text was there, but I always forget that the admin title means any < and > signs get executed. So instead I have to use [code/] containers, or as in this case, use HTML name signs.

Due to my administrator title, all previous posts that have some kind of HTML code and XML containers in the text will not show this text. This includes on all posts the reminder for Alpha testers log flags bit.

I did edit the last 4 or 5 posts to now show that bit again, I am not going to edit all posts in the thread though. For the people wondering what the text should say:

REMINDER TO ALL ALPHA TESTERS:
It's far easier for the developers to fix problems when you send message logs with the appropriate flags set. The main flags are:

<cpu_sched_debug>: problems involving the choice of applications to run.
<work_fetch_debug>: problems involving work fetch (which projects are asked for work, and how much).
<rr_simulation>: problems involving jobs being run in high-priority mode.
<sched_op_debug>: problems involving scheduler operations and other low level information.

Do you think it would be better if the BBCode and HTML modes were separated? Say, if there were a [html] BBCode tag. What's inside that is passed to the web page as is, no processing at all. And what's outside it gets the normal processing, escaping HTML tags and all.

Now there's an idea. Although this will probably add unnecessary white lines again, just as [pre/], [code/], [list/] and [quote/] do. But yeah, it's something to think about.
