Hello BOINC community,

Does anyone know if the next generation video gaming consoles (so called Playstation4 and Xbox 720) will support BOINC projects?

Stanford School of Medicine's Folding at Home distributed computing program claimed to have gained over 100 million compute hours during their earlier involvement with their Playstation 3 distributed computing client.

If the more advanced GPU/CPU resources of these new platforms were enabled to support BOINC, it would provide a strategic, deep pool of compute resources that would help advance the progress of various BOINC projects. It also would benefit these companies by allowing them to showcase the power and flexibility of the new hardware whenever it is released during their next product launch cycles.

This would indeed be good, but as you might have noticed with the PS3. Sony closed this platform for YellowdogLinux and other ways to run BOINC. It's very unlikely they change this attitude in the next Playstation.

The main reason I see is that Sony and Microsoft fear to be made responsible for overheating and failure of the consoles by running BOINC.
