Hello I've just installed the latest version of BOINC by cloning the source from git and compiling it myself. (I wanted to use the screensaver on linux). I told it that it should only run if the computer is idle for more than 2 minutes but I've noticed that it doesn't run at all if I use these settings. (It works fine if I tell it to run all the time.) Is this a common problem with the linux version and/or is there a way to fix it? I am running Debian 7 (Wheezy) and linux kernel 3.7.3. |

I told it that it should only run if the computer is idle for more than 2 minutes but I've noticed that it doesn't run at all if I use these settings. So, what does it do then? Sits there idle? Or runs always? Which project is this with? Which science application is this with? If GPU, did you set preferences for the GPU to run when idle? Did you allow for the boinc account to be able to read the x-drivers? Any other messages in (status columns in) BOINC Manager? What does it say in the Event Log (CTRL+SHIFT+E)? Some information about your machine wouldn't be amiss here either. |

So, what does it do then? Sits there idle? Or runs always? As I said, it doesn't run at all. It just says that the computer is in use all the time. Which project is this with? I'm currently running SETI@Home on this computer. Which science application is this with? SETI@Home Enhanced 6.03 If GPU, did you set preferences for the GPU to run when idle? My GPU doesn't support BOINC Did you allow for the boinc account to be able to read the x-drivers? I don't know. How do I do that? Any other messages in (status columns in) BOINC Manager? Nothing special, the event log looks normal Some information about your machine wouldn't be amiss here either. I'm running BOINC on a lenovo IdeaPad S206 (not much but better that nothing). CPU: AMD E1-1200 RAM: 2GB HDD: 60GB SSD |

So, what does it do then? Sits there idle? Or runs always? What's your setting for the preference "Suspend work if CPU usage is above x%"? If the default 25, try using 0% instead. What's your setting for the preference "Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last x minutes"? Did you allow for the boinc account to be able to read the x-drivers? You compiled your own BOINC and made it run as your user account, thus not as a daemon? That should do it. Else try in a terminal window, for each BOINC session, xhost local:boinc |

Running "xhost local:boinc" did the job. Thank you for the help! |

I have the same issue here, only I didn't build my own. I'm using boinc 7.0.29 rpms for Fedora Core 17. I'm starting boinc with the command "systemctl start boinc-client.service". All of my applications - Docking@home, Malaria, Milkyway, etc. say my computer is in use all of the time - long after the 3 min idle time I configured in the boinc GUI. I tried stopping the boinc service, using the xhost command, then restarting the boinc service, but this didn't help. |
