Hey,

first of all sorry if this was posted already somewhere else, didnt find it though after a search.

Well, since one or two weks now my BOINC client (5.2.13) will not start up when I boot my Win XP system (Athlon XP 2000+, 1 GB RAM), it worked fine before. I already reinstalled the client (didnt delete the entire folder though) with no success. I always get a blank Boinc window which I can only exit by "killing" the client. It might result from a Windows Update I did some time ago, but I cannot imagine this. After restating the client manually everything is fine.

Anybody with the same issue?

That can be the problem. Something must now be taking up port 1043 before Boinc Manager can use it. So then you get things like you have.

Work arounds are:
- Delete the Boinc Manager link from the Windows Startup folder and start Boinc Manager manually after Windows has booted up.
- Install BOINC as a service. That way it will always run, no matter who is logged in, even when no one is logged in.

Or wait for Boinc 5.4.x to be released. That should have this problem fixed by using a completely different port that Microsoft hasn't stolen yet. ;)

This was happening to me for many many months with various Boinc versions (up to 5.2.13). After boot or actually login, I had to stop Boinc and start it again manually. The next one I tried was 5.3.27 which was fine.

Maybe it was the port number, as Jord said.
