Is this thread title, The Einstein is Down Cafe?No it isn't but as it was/is a thread for a Boinc project being down I thought it would do no harm to post it here. Sorry if you're offended Jim, Can I suggest that you send a message to the Admins here voicing your disquiet and see what they say. Takes a lot more than that to get me offended. Just pointing out the discussion from before by several folks that found it annoying to get alerts in this SETI thread to those that have no interest in non-SETI projects when another thread exists specifically for the purpose. Seems to me to be a matter of common courtesy, not a call to mods. ![]() |

Right. Einstein is back. Matter closed. Can we all move on please.Fair enough. Today is the usual Seti outrage day, usual reprobates will be expected to appear :-)Jeez, thought this was Monday morning... So I _did_ belong here, was just early, accepting reprobate title as offered:) ![]() |

Well you see Jim,the UK is some 5-8 hours ahead of the USA. So we are awake when you lot are not ;-))) Phbbt :P Been counting hours in GMT (or, as we called it, Zulu or CUT) since I joined the war in '73. Days, now, those are harder and these days, less well-defined... ![]() |

Gotta tell ya, some of those scientists are really nutcases. Remember several of them that were really off the map, including one who would wander the halls of NBS singing opera at the top of his lungs. Long time back, I used to work at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) [now National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)] labs in Boulder, CO, where the Atomic clocks reside. Either via WWV/WWVH (2.5, 5, 10, 15, 20 mhz), at time.nist.gov, or on dial-up at +1-303-499-7111 they're still into Coordinated Universal Time. The official abbreviation for Coordinated Universal Time is UTC.Called Détente comrade!! And those clocks are really cool! ![]() |

Naw, don't need to prove attendance to claim my weekly allowance :-) |

Who mentioned benefits? To refresh memories (Carlsberg can help) without the need to peruse the wiki :-) MP's attendance allowance MEP's attendance allowance Well, I suppose they can be seen as benefits of a sort. Seti's weekly allowance has no need for a visitor book, so no need to look for a toaster :-) |

Kudos to you for attaining that achievement. Many don't & the only visitor's book they sign is at the gates of St Peter. |

Not had a toaster in nearly 17 years Really? My toaster gets a workout everyday. Sometimes more. I can't live without my toaster. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

But Gordon, we were talking about a Seti toaster, now they are very rare and collectors items these days :-) Ah, yes. I wouldn't mind having one of those, either. Might find ET's face on the toast. ;~) The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

I am also intrigued at the apparent Visitor's book at the gates of St Peter. I always thought that a visitor was someone that stayed temporarily as a guest, being distinct from a permanent resident. I wasn't aware that one could pop in and suss the place out before deciding to move in.Wel for someone who believes that E.T has visited Earth, anything is possible :-) |

They could've made it a 4 slice one to accomodate GPU crunching :-) |

They could've made it a 4 slice one to accomodate GPU crunching :-) Now being a grizzled old cynic not much makes me laugh, but that brought a smile to my face!! |

...Mind you the hat check girl was rather nice. That would be "hat check clerk", if you please. Some of our hat checking professionals are men, some are women and some are transgender. All of them bristle at the sexist term "girl". Anyway, here is my hat... ![]() |

Try here! Well, the problem with that is it's absurdly expensive, and you have to send away for it, so obviously you couldn't eat it. My concept is a toaster at home that you could insert a photograph into, and the bread would come out toasted with the image. Edible art. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |
