Putting my $2 in the pool for the outrage to start at 1608 UTC. All the time stamps in all the forums and on the server status pages say UTC. That's why I said it. Are you saying David Anderson is wrong? signature |

After such an excellent reply on another thread, why the need for the crap after the quote? |

You know I do wonder at times when Seti goes off air for half a day on a Sunday or a Monday, why don't they just keep it down and do the weekly outrage there and then. What is the point of bringing it all up, only to take it all down again the next day?? Provided what they need to do once a week gets done, does it really matter which day? Probably because it's a weekend, night, or both, they won't get paid to do it then, and they'd rather be doing something else. Are you saying David Anderson is wrong? I'm just asking a question. signature |

[ Are you saying David Anderson is wrong? What?? Our Lord God & Master who can do no wrong, whom we revere upon a pedestal, and prostrate ourselves before him as not worthy, and is so dedicated that he fiddles with the code at 11Pm at night? 100 Hail Mary's and go and sit on the naughty step![/quote] Chris have you been at my plants mate ;-) |

All the time stamps in all the forums and on the server status pages say UTC. That's why I said it. Are you saying David Anderson is wrong? Could you please check the time stamp of the post that you quoted? I gave the link to the actual UTC clock on both your and Sirius' posts, as at that time the link showed that neither at 16:06 nor at 16:08 UTC Seti went down. Wasn't that what you were betting on? |

corse not just funny tomato plants that never produce tomatoe's ;-) . I doubt that he would even bother with looking here and if he does he probably shrugs off any derogatory comments from us like water off a duck's back :-) |

After such an excellent reply on another thread, why the need for the crap after the quote? What quote? Notice the post isn't a reply or quote post! I suspect he is answering his own questions now, and ...... |

All the time stamps in all the forums and on the server status pages say UTC. That's why I said it. Are you saying David Anderson is wrong? Okay, yes, you are correct that both of our predictions/bets were wrong (by over an hour, as it turned out). However, the link you put in both replies was to a site that explains what UTC is, so I thought you were being pedantic about the technical meaning of UTC vs. GMT. I will check again, but I did not see anything on that site that related to a specific time. [edit] The site has a clock giving the current UTC time, but it's just that: the current time. It's not frozen at any particular time. signature |

[edit] Talking about being pedantic, who said it had a time frozen at any specific point in time? I'd have thought you could read the time I posted the replies. But hey, next time you're having a bet between yourselves, I'll keep out of things. Got better things to do with my life than have you flip your wig over. |

The SSP says Every Tuesday morning (Pacific Time) we have a regular 3-4 hour outage for database backup (and other system maintenance). We're coming up on 4 hrs, have we been misled? |

[edit] No one's flipping their wig. But then, what was the point of putting that link in the replies? signature |

Being in the UK I tend to use GMT as my local time base and when I refer to Berkeley local time I use PST. UTC. For practical purposes when describing locations, local time is what matters UTC and DST and BST are irrelevant. For most of the year New York is 5 hours behind the UK, and San Fran is 8 hours behind. It varies by 1 hour at other times. UTC is useful as a standard reference. Everyone who is interested should at least know what their own time is in relation to it. signature |
