It's back, Juan I knew you could do it. By the way I thought beer sales were banned in Panama. |

It's back, Juan I knew you could do it. They release the sales the last weekend. Only 1 six pack on each purchase. I need to go to several places to buy a suitable quantity. But is better than nothing. LOL |

It's 9:45 PDT and it's still uo, don't we get the pleasure of an outage today? |

Well, NOT having an outage has disappeared from, or not appeared on, the front page, so they've changed something... |

Well, I haven't been able to post on Beta, since my RAC dropped to 2. I visited Beta recently, there are still >2200 Beta Tasks In Progress, including 1 AstroPulse. Does anyone know if these are needed to complete the final complete data set ? SETI Beta is currently running. |

Beta does NOT contribute to the main science database, it is there to test things. |

Well, I haven't been able to post on Beta, since my RAC dropped to 2. The fork has been stuck in Seti Beta and it is done. It has been since Feb 26 any work was generated. If those numbers on the status page aren't spurious, and I suspect they are, they are abandoned work which just needs to time out. AFIK all beta work has a cannonical result. As to what happens to Beta work I've seen conflicting reports as to if it makes it into the master science database or not. |

Beta has NEVER fed data into the main science database, despite what some people have thought and said. Much of the work it ran was either a standard set of data, or re-badged completed data, and it is this that may have caused the confusion. |

Rob, I do remember years ago Eric said it did go into the science DB. However I don't know if he said so just to get people to run Beta or not. Or perhaps that was only after the app being tested came out of test and was deployed on main. |

If you look at the server lists for main & Beta, apart from the server names there is one big difference - Beta lacks the SETI@Home science database. Beta has been used to test/develop new server code as well as the applications, but those have always either been replicas of, or sub-sets of the main database. |

Neither does Milkyway have a science DB listed. Which begs where does their science go? Obviously they have a science DB. IIRC the science DB isn't part of BOINC's automatic display code because it isn't part of BOINC and Jeff and/or Matt had to hand add code to display it. Eric did everything on Beta. IIRC when the science DB crashed on Main, Beta hung as well. I'm guessing that the results do go into the master DB but are flagged as coming from Beta and hence might be ignored in analysis. |

Oh. I can post in the land of the semi-living. It is boring having no rac and posting privileges on the main boards. Will access to here eventually stop? |
