You sure? Looking at the new Server Problems thread, things aren't really all OK over there. I expect a riot. :-) Always the optimist aren't you? |

It's down. With our luck it is probably down until Monday due to the Easter/Passover holiday weekend. |

Just got a few tasks, and not resends. Perhaps it will slowly stagger back to life as it works through the backlog of records. |

This site can’t be reached setiathome.berkeley.edu took too long to respond. The web pages are extreamely slow. A perfect storm is forming? |

Been trying for the last 10 min. Got the main page but when clicking on a link lost connection. Every attempt after that, no connection. Do like the green instead of the red :-) Weird, now got the site & the red is back :-( |

And this development gets back to the current thread in the News section about site sluggishness and the posts that having a single overlarge database (which includes all the hosts, messages, PM's etc) is just not a smart idea. I've thought for a long while that the database is the weakest link in the project. The hardware has been upgraded over time, mainly to deal with the load of the evergrowing database. But the database design has been stagnant and is not handling the large amount of work being issued and returned by the current Host hardware processing tasks. Also I think it a very good idea of Richard's to reduce the deadlines. An immediate effect on the size of the database by getting rid of the deadwood soonest. I think it well past time to re-engineer how the database is constructed. I like Richard's idea of splitting into two smaller databases. And for goodness sake, take the Host stats, web pages and other peripheral site fluff out of the main database and put into its own separate database. The web site should be accessible at all times which it is not currently when the main database is backed up on Tuesday. |

Still issues this end. Whenever I open a Seti tab, it takes ages & when it opens I get this: but whenever I click on a board it's red when it opens. Then after approx. 5 min viewing connection drops :-( |

I tried and couldn't get one of those. |

That one was the 4th. Tried again just now & whoa, opened up in a split second & normal. Also accessing the boards themselves pretty fast so maybe the issues have resolved itself (or someone has). |

The strange thing today was that SETI was working fine when I got up, around midnight Berkeley time. Then, we couldn't get any work from around 3.30am to 6.30am: work started to flow, but I couldn't access the message boards. My browser said the delay was while it was establishing a secure connection, long before it tried to retrieve any data from the database. So, I'm speculating about infrastructure maintenance, rather than SETI servers? I haven't looked yet. |
