SETI is back down again for maintenance. Let's hope this is necessary to get tasks flowing again.

all I got was lights 1,2,3 staying on and two short beeps

If it was 3 & 4 plug a keyboard in and press F1 .
1,2,and 3 unplug the power lead , press power button till it stops flashing orange 1 press flashes orange for around 10 secs , takes 3 to 4 goes to drain all power count to 20 then plug lead back in and then power up etc , handy to have a monitor connected coz can't see anything remote till it's booted .
Happens every now and then with my machines and always get it booted eventuly without re installing the O/S Chris , and then picks seti up from where it left it
I've got 3 Precisions running and it's the same with all 3 yours shouldn't be any different

That is brilliant info Mark, thank you very much

No worries Chris , happy it helped and you're up and running again , did tell you them Xeons can be finniky buggers when they want to be , my dual Xeon I now have to unplug all the usb cables then press f1 at the boot screen ( before windows flag screen , I run win 7 home / pro on all mine ) , dunno why just " one of em things " ;-) , if I don't just reboots , took me 20 mins to work out with quite colourful language being used by me and threatening the machine with a Oxy Acetylene torch if it didn't start behaving ;-)

Yes, I've had to use System Restore on mine a few times over the years. One thing I'm learning: the (commercial) AV I'm using occasionally pops up an alert saying that the machine needs to be rebooted so that an update can be completed. I've usually delayed it until 'Patch Tuesday' so I can get both reboots out of the way together (being 10 years old and still on a derivative of the original factory OS, it takes a long time to boot through all the junk).

But that's turned out to be a false economy: a few times after a 'double update', I've had to restore back a few steps and then re-install both the M$ updates, and the AV, separately. So now I'd recommend doing any required reboots singly, before starting on the next update task.

Your AV sounds a bit like Bitdefender. I have BD on one of my systems and since it updated itself to v2018 it's started to demand that I reboot every couple of days. Sometimes even three times a day. It's getting frustrating to start the system and be met by a message that we need to reboot immediately upon logging in because BD needs it for an update. My other system has Kaspersky, it never asks me to reboot for updates. So guess what will happen when BitDefender's license runs out in 2 months time? Yep... no more that crap on that system, it'll receive a new license from Kaspersky as well.

I emailed Bitdefender about it with a complaint, they thought I wanted help on getting this fixed. Uhm nope, my decision's already been made.

Just as normal will do - I think the plan is that anything donated between now and 31st December 2017 will be counted for the hardware and the special icons.

There'll be a parallel special appeal through the GPU Users Group, because this sort of kit is really their specialism. The plan is to make this a blitz appeal, over and done as quickly as possible. Let's see if we can hit the target by Christmas.

And did you get through to the reference site?

I usually get those messages when the router my ISP supplied for my house is going through its weekly restart and line speed test.
