<ed>Maybe Eric wanted Angela to come to bed?

Merciful heavens! Such speculation!!! I feel like the subject of a celebrity gossip magazine...

Well, since everyone is so curious, I did, in fact, tell Eric that "my stories" were down last night. He sent an email to the people at the data center. They eventually re-booted the web server.

When "my stories" came back up, Eric neglected to tell me... so I'd go to bed!

Do we assume that it was the data centres web server and not Seti's one?

Well logic suggests as it was SETI@Home web page that was down it was the Seti@Home web-server that was down.

Not sure what the data centre web page looks like(if there is one) but as far as I am aware has no connection at all to Seti@Home.

Except perhaps the server is in the same building, possibly.

Thank you, Agentb :) I will try pm'ing them first. If it solves the issue, I will post an update in that thread.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend in the meantime :)

Well, that would presumably be muarae1. If so, that is one sick beastie given the number of web outages recently, and it needs dealing with.

It is a sensitive machine. It is getting sick and tired of all the carping it has to read when people press post. As you know it became self aware when the magic ET signal was received and stored in the database. :)

Many more exec errors on the server status page (both columns) at the 23:30:03 UTC refresh. Data preserved, but I won't try to make sense of it until tomorrow.

Good morning Nick. You would be rather sad if you cared about my rainfall gauge. Oh yes, sensible conversation are quite debatable I agree. Gosh you must be bored :-))

Good morning Sirius, Oh yes I do frequently pop in here on occasions. One has to to keep Jords lines of communications open. The pay is not much though :-(

Awaiting Amazon deliveries, who have managed to split an order for seven items, all available on Prime, i.e. deliver next day free, into three deliveries, one coming from Stretford, Manchester not here yet, and two from Preston, the delivery which arrived last in Preston came 2 hrs ago, the other left Preston at 07:42, still not arrived.

Just to add insult to injury the items that have arrived are the ones of least priority for me. Some of the others require some work, which I would prefer to do before evening meal and in daylight. So it looks like I will be busy tomorrow, oh joy, I wanted to out to the market and restock the old food cupboards before youngest arrives Friday.
His normal actions on arrival, is park up, come in kitchen door, open fridge to see what he can eat. Always complains left leg is empty, surprising as it is such a long way from his brain which is up there at 6' 4".

Still no amazon drivers, the Preston depot is all of 20 miles away.

DHL - six boxes dispatched at the same time from the same supplier, all the same size & weight, for "next working day" delivery to the same address.
One arrived within 12 hours (on the same day as dispatch!)
Three arrive on the due day, in the same delivery
One arrived later on the due day
And one was a week overdue

Customer not happy :-(

I've just found out that a brand new London black taxi cab, the TX4 Euro 6, has an on the road price of £45,945. That is Merc and BMW territory!

Whatever made you think they would be any less?

I know that cabs have to be built to an exacting spec because of the Public Carriage office Regulations i.e. it must have a certain minimum turning circle etc but I would have thought around £37K not £46K. I wonder how much the New York yellow cabs cost in comparison? Interestingly they still have to have a boot of a specific volume, this stems from the time when they were horse drawn and it had to hold a certain amount of hay for the horse. That requirement is still extant in the 21C!

Did you think to consider mileage, passenger numbers, reliability required.
In the price range 37k to 60k there is hardly any cars that can match a London Taxi, plus those cars assume some if not a great deal of motorway driving, again not something a taxi has to do.

Annual mileage for a double shifted cab operated from near Palmers Green u/ground stn, I'm told from brother of one of three guys that operate their own black cab is 60k to 70k per year. They get new cab every 4 years and still manage to sell old one for a decent sum.
