Most cars over here (including mine) have a third high-level brake light in the top centre of the rear window - and pulling up close behind one of those ruins your night vision for the next few minutes.

I was a "biker" till i had a "little" crash back in 2010 and got messed up good , ( only 20 /25 mph with full "kit" on ) . Those "high level" brake lights are a very bad idea , if it "messed" with your night vision you can imgine how they affect "bikers"

You should be able to de activate em but take the bulb out and you can get points for a defective vehicle , talk of a " catch 22 " situation .
People drive with their fog lights on when it's dusk and a bit drizzly but that's happend for years

I once pulled up at a railway level / railroad grade crossing, and switched off my front headlights while I waited, as is my custom - because I know that crossing can let you in for a long wait while up to four trains pass.

The car in front was a police car, and the copper got out to ask - very politely - if I knew my lights had failed. I explained I was trying not to dazzle him via his rear-view mirror, and we had a little chat about being thoughtful to other road users, before we went our separate ways.

I would call that being considerate to other road users , just like where i live you do get people riding their horses on the road , i would always "throttle back" and pootle past in a high gear givin them a very wide berth so i didn't "spook" them . but how many people do things like that now a days ? . I've seen people in cars and bikes not give a shite and keep on going at over the limit and don't care . I wern't a angel belive me but did try to be "considerate" of the environment on the road i was travelin on

We could have debated whether 1989 No. 1796 PART III Regulation 25(2)(e) applied, of course, but I think the train passed before we reached that stage.

Traffic cops are the lowest echelon in the police service, they are never there when you want them, and are when you don't.

Traffic cops are alright , depends on how you are with them , I've been "knicked" loadsa times by them and fair enough i might of "just been facturin the speed limit by 50 % ;-) , but would rather deal with a person than a camera . When i had my crash they were there a good 10 minutes before the Ambulance turned up .

If you have a attitude with them they are far more likely to find " problems" with you and treat you like crap . Treat em normal and they are alright 8/9 times outa 10 , got out of loads of points just by being nice and "taking" a strong talking to , rather that than "elm street ( local majestrates court )
( know from "experiance" and lots more there than you ;-) )

Spot on.

Been pulled many times but never arrested :-)

As for not being enough of them, the answer is obvious but this is the café not politics.

Where I live, the officers have ticket quotas they are expected to make each month. I don't think anything happens to the officer who doesn't write enough tickets, but they are strongly encouraged.

Going to court actually has a monetary incentive for the officer.

Think it's the same over here with some forces , but the big problem with that happening is it takes away the officers "discression" . In that situation you're probably far more likely to get a ticket , that's what i would expect to happen

The flip side is, I have a friend who's a K-9 officer, and he hates the paperwork of writing tickets, so he almost never does.

Question....
If one truly appreciates and gets much satisfaction from an $800.00 wristwatch, should one buy such a wristwatch?
Of course, it can be purchased for $400.00, but that is still a lot of money to wear on one's wrist just to tell the time.....LOL.
I am currently wearing a $12.00 Walmart job.

I had one many many years ago, and it finally got beat to death at work. I now have a different job that would spare the watch such abuse.

I seem to be obsessed with clocks and the passage of time..............
Keeps me reminded of the fact that we are only here for the moment, eh?

I have one of those Heathkit GC1000s that I built from a kit, and still cherish it. I recently purchased a 20" LaCrosse Technologies wall clock that I just adore watching the large hands click around on.

Here is the ebay listing....

Gawd, that is a beautiful piece.

I love clocks, too.

I inherited my dad's watch when he died in 1982, and while it's not fancy, it's a nice self-winding Hamilton with day and date, and I get it cleaned about every five years.

If it makes you happy, I say get it.

It was a very happy day in my life when I got my first cell phone for work, which had a clock. Haven't worn a watch since ...

Thank you.

In reference to your father...
The one and only thing I was given upon my Dad's father's passing was his wristwatch. I was with my Grandfather shortly before he passed in the hospital, and he gave it to me. He looked me in the eye and gave it to me. No words were spoken. A few moments later he was gone.

Very old, very worn, but I still have it to this day. A very plain old Bulova.
It was obvious that he had bought it when he first came to this country and had worn it for most of his life.

I shall buy the new watch, and enjoy it very much....
I am going on 60 now, the Lord may call me home at any time. And I don't think at this point I should deprive myself of a few things I enjoy before I go.

Meow.

I don't quite know what to say right now.
But, I'll give it a go.

I have been with the Seti project for longer than most.
Not as long as a few, but longer than most.

And have dedicated many of my life's resources towards it.

Now that having been said, I find diminishing returns on my investment.

Credits, such as they are worth, are finally trending upward.
This may be temporary.

What I know is this..........
And this is factual, not emotional.

I have, since my initial connection with the Seti project, have amassed, more credits than any other individual on the planet.
Individual, not company farms or corrupted school computers.
My own, run by me, and the electricity has been paid for by..........me.

No boast, just fact. I have been gifted with much hardware to do this with by others. But the running of them and the cost of doing so has been borne by myself.

You do not know what this has cost me. I drive a 26yo Oldsmobile, not a Lexus.
I buy a few toys on ebay, but I cannot really get what I might want, because it always defaults to what I can afford to buy.

And still, it all comes down to this.

I get verbose on the forums, and some who have been entitled with the mod tag come down and me. And ban me for a couple of weeks so they don't have to deal with my posts.

And that's what it really comes down to.

They don't wanna do their job and really watch what has been said, and listen.
And so they just would rather ditch me rather than deal with it on a case by case basis. Easier just to ban the messenger of doom./...

Which would be me, at times.

Fine if you do not like it.
Just post something something you like better.

I get verbose on the forums,...

Your verbosity does not land you in the penalty box. Your abusive behavior and your potty mouth land you in the penalty box.

... and some who have been entitled with the mod tag come down and me.

I have yet to participate in one of your ban votes that was not unanimous, so in the above phrase please substitute "all" for "some".

...And ban me for a couple of weeks so they don't have to deal with my posts.

You are given multiple warnings before each ban, but you tend to need more babysitting than any team of reasonable adults should EVER be asked to provide.

An important step in recovery from addiction is to start taking responsibility for your actions.

I see you are not there yet.

OH hon, I appreciate you trying to take part in these proceedings upon my behalf.

Perhalps you would be doing better good by getting the greater good to end my ban now.l.....
