I haven't checked to see if I can DL new work from Main.

4 days ago one of my i5 rigs threw a wobbly and didn't recognise the graphics card any more. Today was the first time I could be bothered to log in remotely anddo anything about it. Updated to the latest Nvidia drivers and all is well now. Missed 4 days crunching, I will go and sit on the naughty step and hope Eric is still talking to me :-)

You NASTY little boy!!!

The court, due to vodka-induced incapacity, regrets the inability to provide proper banter in reply and reserves witty repartee until a later date ...

All my rigs are uploading work to Seti OK but neither Boinc or Seti are updating their results since yesterday afternoon UK time on the 5th.

Replica offline?

Nope

Yup. Replica is offline, but plenty of validators are online. Tasks are being validated - check your total credit (say once per hour) in either BOINC Manager or your account page on the SETI website. It'll be going up (unless you're firing blanks), but you can't see the individual tasks in the lists until the replica is back online and caught up.

Oh? Is something called Seti back up? Oh goodie, whoopie doo, let joy be unconfined, buy the cat a goldfish, now I have a meaning in life again. I can come out of hermit mode, and stop wringing my hands, and ditch these sackcloth and ashes clothes. Not very beguiling at the best of times.

I shall immediately face Berkeley and pray to the great god in the Colo for my salvation.

[tounge in cheek off]

Honestly guys :-)))

Chris, your post is very funny and our cats are now wondering why they never get any goldfish, but I would be remiss in my worship of the Irony Gods if I did not point out that your posting history here, and your posting history with the account you use for our seti team forum, reveals regular and frequent interactions with community members.

So while you may not be overly concerned about the crunching aspects of this project, you certainly cannot deny that the social aspects of the project pull you right in, just as much as the crunching aspects may pull in others.

Judge not, lest ye be judged!

Seti says replica database on-line. I just wanted to see if the i7 chip is faster than the previous i5 chip. But I can wait.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html

At 15:30 UTC (i.e. now), I see:

BOINC replica database carolyn Running
Replica seconds behind master Offline

Please tell me where you see the word "on-line".

a desert island

No water, but for all around it. No shade, but for under the water all around it. Don't think you can stay long on a desert island.

Either the damn thing is up and running and working properly or it isn't.

No, the server can be up & running, but that doesn't mean that the database is.
Compare it to your computer when you have problems with Windows. Your computer is up&running, but is it working properly when you can't get into Windows without it crashing?

Up&running and working properly aren't necessarily needed at the same time.

Ah, idling in neutral with hand brake on then?

MSBG as I was taught.

Check Mirrors
Signal
Brake off
In gear

We await signal then .....

As a manual transmission driver, I always put it in neutral at stops, but I keep my foot on the brake.

Using the hand brake in stop & go traffic would be a nuisance.

I wish I knew somebody to ask over here.

I don't know anybody right now who drives a stick other than myself. I originally learned/took my test on an automatic but taught myself how to drive a stick about 20 years ago when a friend sold me hers for $300. She put the keys in her mailbox, and told me if I wanted it I could have it. ~That's when I discovered it was a manual transmission car, but I figured it out, liked it, and now my current stick is a Saturn SC-1.

I always try to remember to take my foot off the footbrake, and use the handbrake instead, when driving in traffic after dark. Most cars over here (including mine) have a third high-level brake light in the top centre of the rear window - and pulling up close behind one of those ruins your night vision for the next few minutes. I don't want to blind the guy behind me in case I need him to stop again at the next obstruction.

Conversely, if I'm the last vehicle in an unexpected queue of traffic - say for roadworks - I'll keep my foot in the footbrake until the next vehicle has safely joined the queue, and then switch.
