Oh man, no DB backups. The BOINC server doesn't really do much database work. But I do hope they backed up both User documentation wrote: Forbidden Server documentation wrote: Internal Server Error |

What made you think it was php? All pages under BOINC are normally PHP, and the actual page in the source code is also called server_status.php I don't have a bookmark to the SSP, so typed in the address in the address bar. As soon as I typed 's' at the end of Seti's address, that PHP page came up first. |

I usually open it from the link on the front page (second column, under 'ABOUT'). The page source for that column <a href=sah_about.php class=menu>About SETI@home</a></nobr><br> <a href=ap_faq.php class=menu>About Astropulse</a></nobr><br> <a href=sah_sci_newsletters.php class=menu>Science newsletters</a></nobr><br> <a href=http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/tech_news.php class=menu>Technical news</a></nobr><br> <a href=sah_status.html class=menu>Server status</a></nobr><br> <a href=sci_status.html class=menu>Science status</a></nobr><br> <a href=kiosk/ class=menu>World view</a></nobr><br> <a href=sah_about.php class=menu>... more</a></nobr><br> shows a mixture of php and html pages - SETI never did adopt all the BOINC rules ;) |

What made you think it was php? Ah, it used to be. Then the spaghetti of the machines became too much and that page died and went away about with the last v.6 work unit. ![]() |

I thought that Matt & Jeff worked for Seti@home, are we now to understand that they also work for BOINC as well? Are BOINC's servers also in the COLO as well as Seti's? BOINC only had one server, called Isaac. Yes, it was moved to the colo at some point as well (previously it ran from a cabinet in David's office). I suppose Matt and Jeff work on the server because they know more about servers -and getting data from dead ones- than David alone does. As for the backups, I have asked about that in the past. Don't think I ever got an answer. Hopefully the User Manual wiki can be restored, as I only have one and a half page of it in Notepad++, as I just worked on it last week. |

Just to mitigate some confusion. Jeff and I informally help BOINC out from time to time because of the natural dependencies between BOINC and SETI@home. The BOINC "servers" is actually just one server, which is an old donated frankenstein machine recently prone to crashing. I've been trying to get BOINC moved to another server but a worthwhile stable machine has yet to materialize. Also the time and coordination to disrupt everything to do this migration to whatever new server also has yet to materialize. Over the weekend the root filesystem got corrupted somehow and was unfixable. I suspect a bad PS caused some fs corruption during various recent unexpected reboots. I was able to get a temporary web server on line, and then on Monday I made this other server the temporary (and perhaps permanent) new BOINC server. This *was* a former compute server for SETI@home, so we're down one machine on the S@h front. So be it. Of course we do backups of that machine. The mysql database I recovered at first was a red herring - it was an old mysql dir masquerading as the current one (hence all the posts missing since 2013). I had to get a new version pulled from the lab's backup tapes (which took all night as they were in process of doing some maintenance). We could do a *better* job of backing things up so recovery is faster/easier, but the budget line item for my BOINC salary and server hardware upgrades for the past N years has been $0. Anyway, lessons learned, etc. - Matt |

Wasn't someone on Seti offering up an old server some time ago? I suppose for the use of the BOINC web server, you don't really need 8 CPUs, 128GB RAM and 14TB of SSDs? |

Just a thought. If Matt could put together specs for a new Boinc Server, maybe we could get a donation drive going. Hardware, not Cash. Once I have the wishlist, I am willing to monitor the drive. Since I am done with the T-shirts, I need a new labor of love. Pluto will always be a planet to me. |

Believe me, I have asked. That falls to Eric and he just doesn't have the time. Pluto will always be a planet to me. |

No such luck Chris. Eric is busy elsewhere. Pluto will always be a planet to me. |

Funnily enough I asked 3 people behind the scenes now what they expect of a new BOINC server, so we can possibly start a crowd-funding or donation drive for one. Utter silence on that as well. So either no one knows, or they just don't need a new server. |
