Hi:
My first thought was to just answer yes. (He he.)
I really have been very busy helping LSM get by
as she recovers from her fall. What with Christmas
coming and a very big family, I am a way busier
this year. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Give LSM my regards:)

Nah, don't be sorry TimeLord04, this is The Internet :)

You have really fast connection, and You are much closer to Berkeley than Me and Annie. It's just the Ping :)

My distance to Berkeley is about 5416 miles, and Annies is about 5349 miles (counted from capital of our countries). Your's is about 2559 (counted from New York) so Ping does count :)

New York is not the capital of the US. (You knew that, right?)

TL is actually much closer than that, on the order of a couple hundred miles or less from Berkeley.

Is it over yet? <checks it in another tab> Nope.

It only takes me 20 min. to get to Berkeley; with no traffic. :-)

SO excited!! Insurance approved me for a new power chair. I've had my current one for 12 years. I'll get it for New Year's Eve

The AP database is shut down. Hope they are just looking into the poor splitting production of AP work, and nothing has gone awry again.

Well, I am a bit disheartened, but admittedly not surprised.
Given the size of the DB involved and the extended time it took to rebuild it, I was kind of wondering if things would just take off and be OK again.
The troubles Eric had with getting it put back together and the fact that it took much longer to do so than he had expected were not good omens.

I did have hopes that making it through the weekly outage processes and having AP work starting to flow again meant that it was good to go. But AP splitting was progressing rather sluggishly, which hinted to me that the DB was not free of entanglements.

I can only hope at this point that it is not going to take another week of Informix resorting to give it another go..........
But, I would imagine we might have some tech updates as today wears on and the situation is sorted some more.

More problems for the servers :(

No telling how long it will be before they know if it's going to come back.

Fingers crossed

I shall post a comment and then be prepared to take the heat for it.
Because I do it from a position of knowing nothing at all about databases.

But, I cannot believe that if things were properly deployed and used that it would take this kind of time and trouble to restore one small piece of such a large database.
I say this because it is my belief that IBM Informix would not have survived this long if every time a hard drive array error, and they happen more often than one might believe, would cause such headaches and downtime for those using it.....

There simply HAS to be a reason for such difficulties, and ways to prevent it, than perhaps the Seti admins are aware of.

That is my opinion, and only that. I am of course, not all knowing. If I had the answers, I would surely post them. I DO NOT.

I am simply stating that I believe there have to be more problems here other than simply a corrupt table in a small piece of a massive database.
And IF it is hardware rather than anything else, this is going to go on ad infinitum until it is replaced. You can spend an infinite amount of time restoring this and that bit, and if all comes to a grinding halt every time another corrupt bit is found, you shall continue doing so forever.

Ask IBM for help. Ask them to donate that help. Right now, this is bad publicity for them indeed, as presented on the surface.

Here is the link.....
I would start a trouble ticket for Seti, or even dial the toll free number to jack somebody up.....but as some good intents I have had, it might be considered inappropriate for me to do so as they are running on a donated version and one which is quite dated, and I only have a small cat in the fight. I don't wish to get embroiled in any more issues than I already have here.

If you did not leave my world having the right answer,
Consider that you never asked the correct questions.

I have presented to you many things I have learned in my life and travels.
Some that many of you may never have come across.........and so, some of them may have presented problems to you.
Which you have chosen rather than to deal with or ponder about, but rather to censure me for.

Let me tell you this....kids.......
This has gone on for centuries.
And I am not going to be the one to break the chain, I suppose.
I only wish to break though enough to share some things I know/

Well...
Hopefully a big day tomorrow for Seti and a triumphant return.
According to Eric, he seems to have the AP database sorted again, but he is waiting until tomorrow to restart things so that Matt and Jeff can have a look-see at things first.

Hope that this time is the charm, and the kitties can get back to doing some serious AP crunching for a while.....and there's a bunch of it to do if only the pipeline doesn't get stopped up again.

Best kitty juju going out to da boyz in da lab and the servers.

Meow meow meow.
