Are there any other BOINC projects besides E@H that will allow a resource "0" so they will only run as a backup project? Tom |

I`m back from the outrage pub. The world is spinning around my head. Will hollow the moon while sleeping. Host mode is at auto, his large WU cache must hold it working for the next 24 hrs. I hope. LOL Good night all! |

Now a bit more than 9 1/2 hours since the outrage began. My neighbors Beagles. are helping me howling at the small sliver of the waning moon (13%) tonight. Lucky for me my other neighbor is not home tonight and the cows are not in the pastures behind my home. So here goes |

IIRC there are some projects which only allow a a resource of 1 or greater, I don't know what they are. That is a server side control. Some projects allow fractional work shares. Older back ends don't nor do they allow zero. Unfortunately, you need to try on each project. Of course you could set the SETI share to a very huge number so that one is nearly zero. I think there are also controls you can set in the app config files to only fetch one work unit at a time, only crunch one at a time, etc. on a project by project basis. |

IIRC there are some projects which only allow a a resource of 1 or greater, I don't know what they are. So adjust the share on your preferred projects so that the emergency project is 1 in a thousand or more. Main project 900, Secondary project 99, Emergency Project 1, or similar. |

After much deliberation I have concluded neither howling on the moon or setting my hair on fire will help, there for drinking is the only outlet I am able to come up with. |

I concur. Since they warned us by stating "this week's"... We should conserve our resources and wait to start burning hair and howling at the moon once SETI has been m.i.a. 25 or more hours. We don't want to run out of hair or strain our vocal cords too early in this once in a decade super duper grand mal outrage. |

That might not be the right solution for all. Resource share 1 will allow BOINC to request a full multi-day cache, and when it arrives, BOINC will panic that it won't be able to finish it in time.So adjust the share on your preferred projects so that the emergency project is 1 in a thousand or more.IIRC there are some projects which only allow a a resource of 1 or greater, I don't know what they are.Didn't know that. Interesting ... If resource share 0 is available, it should do a more manageable fetch. Zero is a relatively recent addition, so it'll be the projects which are on the ball and update their servers regularly which have it: projects which leave their servers untouched for years - won't. |

I have successfully set World Community Grid to 0.0001 resources. I remember it not accepting "0". I suppose I should check that again. If I can get that setup then I could use the relatively well behaved Einstein@Home gpu tasks and use the World Community Grid cpu tasks as the backups on my 100% Seti box. It wouldn't get so bored.... Most of my boxes run a mix of Seti@Home on the gpus and WCG on the cpus. My bias is towards supporting Seti@Home but I want to be directly "socially conscious" and WCG allows me to do that. It is a project aggregator so I get a wide mix. Tom ps. The main website is still down so I presume the DB re-org is still munching along. Tag. Your "it". |

Just got one of my secondary systems back on line so it is munching WCG and E@H. Tom Tag. Your "it". |

Go to Work! They would complain if I did that and spread the flu around. My generosity would not be appreciated. |
