Message 90447 - Posted: 3 Mar 2019, 4:16:14 UTC - in response to Message 90444.

On another topic. Besides the DB crash notice anyone has any inside on what is the expected time needed to fix the problem?

No we haven't heard a peep from project staff. I don't think I have seen any mention of kittyman sending an email to Eric or Jeff either.

. . Hey, the biggest problem it creates for us micro managers is that it leaves us with nothing to do but twiddle our thumbs. It gets very boring ... :)

Or add new projects :)

. . Toying with World Community grid ATM but it also is sending only CPU tasks :(

. . I might have to try GPU Grid.

I've got GPU Grid doing just great on GPU work, but can't seem to coax a single CPU task out .... Sure wish BOINC could get some of its issues resolved,

any thoughts on the rosetta project?? The faster machine in the house is now crunching Rosetta. My slow machine will probably have enough to keep it busy until Monday. I'm glad the WUs lately have been a bit meatier (taken longer to process).

Even better, read 2 good books. The project returns once you've finished them. :-)

He does, he has posted here in the distant past.

As time to fix, if a raid isn't re-syncing by now, it might be wait for a fedex delivery.

Staff has to know, the SSP dumps them e-mails where there are burps. Unless they are all on vacation at once, it is being fixed.

Perhaps the CRL will have time to give us an update if hubby has an answer.

If you are talking about GPUGrid CPU tasks (Quantum Chemistry?), they require Linux or Virtual Box. But beware, they use 4 CPU threads per work unit unless you modify your app_config to restrict how many threads it uses. It drives the Temp up like crazy. I had to install a 360mm Rad AIO to keep the temps below 60 C for just 3 CPU work units. It also uses a HUGE amount of either SSD or HDD space, between 30-60GB per work unit. I had to switch out mine for a 4 TB HDD so I would not run out of space. So might be a good thing if you aren't able to get the CPU work units running.

Yeah, I stumbled across that impression a bit later, and had dropped Keith a PM requesting confirmation. So thanks for that.
No worries, Einstein seems to have plenty of CPU work, just no GPU stuff.
Thanks for the confirmation! Much appreciated!

Well mine was the Gigabyte version

I needed the single fan version to fit the case.

It replaced a GTX 1060 3Gb, which while OK for Seti, was not quite good enough for the games I play

I can tell you I have noticed a large improvement in both frame rate and colour and distance rendering.

Unfortunately my RAC has not settled yet and obviously wont for a while :-(

Interesting note, this is the first card I have had, that has no DVI port, just 3 DP and 1 HDMI

CPU tasks have been Linux only so far on Main. They are trying to get a Windows cpu application running, but it is in beta stage so far. You need to set Accept Quantum Chemistry CPU Beta work in your project preferences. Also, it is a multi-threaded application with default use of 4 cores per task. So you need to have sufficient cores available for each task. It helps to limit the thread usage and max_concurrent cpu task in an app_config. See this thread for details. https://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=4790
Also be prepared for the tasks to use massive quantities of hard disk space for the temporary files. Zalster is running QC tasks on 4TB hard disks. Though I hear that the most current tasks are not taking as much space as the tasks from a month ago.

. . Sadly the Galax version would not have helped. It HAS DVI-D but it is dual fan.

Yes I had a DVI to HDMI adaptor on the 1060 for my second screen, now I had to get a DP to HDMI adaptor.

Apparently it is due to the VR headsets using DP

. . Aha! Yes VR is growing, and cards like this are right in amongst it.

Oh well I might have to get new monitors ... mine are all DVI-D, DVI-A or older.

Running two 4K monitors, the AOC 32" with DVI, DP and HDMI connectors (1.4 and 2.1), the Samsung 28" with DP and HDMI (1.4 and 2.1) connectors.
You don't really need 4K (3840x2160) because it'll make everything on your Windows desktop illegibly small. For which you have to compensate by making text and icons bigger, after which any gadgets won't show.
Plus gaming in 4K is just unnecessary and needs a very beefy CPU & GPU to pay off. :)

David told me: "The database is down. I tried to restart it, but it didn't work. Hopefully Eric or Jeff can fix it tomorrow."
So it won't be back today.

Thanks for the info Jord.

I sent a mail to Eric and Jeff about 6 hours ago, asking if there was any word to pass along. No word back.
As well as an invitation to this forum to say something since they don't have a front page, LOL.
