I like crunching for GPUGrid.https://www.gpugrid.netNote for anyone tempted to switch from SETI to GPUGrid - things are different there. In particular, time moves much quicker. Their deadline is five days, but they like to have the work back in under 24 hours. And the tasks are much bigger - on my cards, they usually take 12 hours, but at the moment they're slipping in a few which last 20 hours. You do not want a big cache over there! |

Note for anyone tempted to switch from SETI to GPUGrid - things are different there. Thanks for that info. Guess I'd need to pass on GPUGrid, as I want something that has WUs that process quickly, especially on CPU work. The excessive time CPU work takes on Einstein is one reason I only do GPU work there. I imagine that also leaves Collatz out, from what I could tell with a little research. I need something with nice short CPU tasks. I know, good luck with that, eh? |

And to make it all better, Einstein isn't splitting any GPU work right now either.Well, MW GPU tasks don't work on my Ryzen right now (especially since I stopped using the test patch), Einstein GPU is quiet, and my old Cosmology account doesn't have GPU tasks...I guess I get to give my GPU a rest for awhile. I'm not going to experiment with other projects with all the problems I have with the Vega 8 GPU. If this is a "grand mal", then the weekend probably works better for Eric & Co. Nobody else to bug them on campus except for us here. |

Glad I use my GPU for gaming these days, that way it is used and pumps out nice warm air. Which reminds me, Cyrodill, EP Zerg, here I come! |

Well, MW GPU tasks don't work on my Ryzen right now ... And I think MW is dead in the water right now as well? |

Well, MW GPU tasks don't work on my Ryzen right now ... Seems off the air. |

Yeah, not a great weekend for BOINC. I purposely have my rig set up with two backup projects just in case, but so much for that idea. Oh well, I did want to play some more Kerbal this weekend, might as well see how it performs without sharing the GPU.Well, MW GPU tasks don't work on my Ryzen right now ... |

Guess I'd need to pass on GPUGrid, as I want something that has WUs that process quickly, especially on CPU work. The excessive time CPU work takes on Einstein is one reason I only do GPU work there. I only do cpu tasks for Seti. The other projects only run gpu tasks. I find that with my global 1 day cache setting I get only about 4-7 gpu tasks for GPUGrid and they only rarely push themselves into High Priority mode. I also restrict the max_concurrent for that project and that always allows Seti access to the gpus in my multi-gpu hosts. The GPUGrid "short" tasks take from 1500-2500 seconds to run. The "long" tasks take from 12,000 - 25,000 seconds to run. Most long tasks fall in the 4-5 hour range. [Edit] You could restrict GPUGrid to only gpu and the short tasks to keep the task times to a minimum. |

Thanks, Keith. Good thoughts, all. It may be that trying to backfill CPU work here isn't worth the brain damage. The ridiculous part of my setup is that my most productive system is very CPU-weak, and the others are CPU strong but real estate and power limited for GPU. Guess that's what I get for running such old iron. |

With the problems Seti and Einstein are having I guess the best thing we can do is set our hair on fire and howl at the moon. |

Well seems like it was a bad week to get a new GPU :-( . . OK, now I have to ask .. what kind of GPU ?? Stephen :) |

I was thinking this could be a good excuse for re-attacking the problem of Linux/Boinc/SETI not liking my newest rig. But I would need a volunteer who likes a challenge, has patience and can hold my hand through the process. . . Are you up for it? . . I mean it has to be better than ... With the problems Seti and Einstein are having I guess the best thing we can do is set our hair on fire and howl at the moon. . . At least a little bit :) Stephen ? ? |

/me looks up to the sky and feels raindrops hitting his eyes. Yeah, neither the fire nor the moon are going to be reasonable. But an A+ for effort. |

Hi @Stephen, forgive me if I don't remember where you are at with your Linux/Boinc/SETI problem. Sure I will help. PM me and I will see what I can do and keep the traffic off the forums. |

GPUGRID is really putting a load on my single fan GTX1060. I stopped OC and really cranked up the fan and it still is 10c warmer than SOG. The credit it awards is ridiculous, 13,350 for 1 hr and 20 min. Oh well the science is worthwhile. |

Just make sure blinkers are worn on Monday as the bitching on the panic thread is going to be awesome. :-) Don't remind me, I might have to create a new thread way too soon at this rate. For GPU work, Collatz is one of the quickest for me, averaging around 8 minutes per WU. |

The credit it awards is ridiculous, 13,350 for 1 hr and 20 min. Oh well the science is worthwhile. Richard made a post recently comparing RAC to REC. He pointed out that GPUGrid actually awards credit in the amount that almost perfectly matches REC. So that scheduling among projects based on our current REC mechanism ACTUALLY WORKS correctly for GPUGrid. And he also pointed out that SETI does not and is in fact one of the worst offenders and does not obey the BOINC scheduling mechanism correctly at all. And of course DOES not award credit correctly too which we all know to be true with CreditNew in play. [Edit] This post. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=12842&postid=90266 |

LOL. Just think, it might NOT be back Monday & they decide to stay down until Wed to cover the regular Tues fun. Now that would be some bitching from all those that micro-manage. :-) |

LOL. Just think, it might NOT be back Monday & they decide to stay down until Wed to cover the regular Tues fun. I wouldn't think it would take long for a backup on Tuesday after being down so long, but I'm sure they do other things too during the Outrage on Tuesday. I know databases are a big PITA, so I will send virtual soda, coffee, pizza and donuts to the techs that have to deal with this mess. They deserve some time to do standard maintenance chores and not always putting out fires with the system. not a big fan of lighting myself on fire...but I'll howl at the moon if it helps :-) |
