Anybody with Fermi or Kepler based cards got any Arecibo Vlars on the gpu yet?
Yes, got some on my GTX 470. I'll let you know what it feels like when I try to do my income tax return on that machine at the weekend.

For a while, then not. Back down again. Hope it will be as short as last.

OK, I'm curious. When is Tax Day in Britain. Sounds like it might be the same as U.S. April 15th other thereabouts and not landing on a weekend.

OK, thanks for the post Richard, that answers my question. So far have found one Arecibo VLAR finished on the special app. About twice as long as non-VLAR. Haven't found a finished one for the SoG app yet.

Ok, well, I was just about to pose this question on SETI's Number Crunching forum, but the site went down, so...

My question is how long do "Error" tasks stay with you? I had quite a few several days ago, and they've gradually whittled down to 6, but I don't understand the process as to how they are picked back up again.

They get sent back out again until two are validated. Then if the servers don't miss them, they are cleared from the database when the results are purged. Sometime, the servers miss them and they might need to go all the way to the longest deadline task to time out. Then the servers have another chance to clear. So, at the worst they will hang around for two months.

OK, I'm curious. When is Tax Day in Britain. Sounds like it might be the same as U.S. April 15th other thereabouts and not landing on a weekend.
The old English quarter days (also observed in Wales and the Channel Islands) are

Lady Day (25 March)
Midsummer Day (24 June)
Michaelmas (29 September)
Christmas (25 December)

The financial year end was Lady Day. In 1752, Britain switched from using the Julian to the Gregorian calendar (rather belatedly, it has to be admitted). So the human calendar shifted by 11 days relative to solar time. To keep the tax take consistent, the financial year end was shifted by the same 11 days, so the year ends on 5 April and restarts on 6 April. Unfortunately, commercial landlords also collected rent (in advance) on quarter days, and have continued to do so (Why is rent paid on quarter days???). So, commercial landlords pocketed an extra 11 days rent in 1752, and have kept it ever since.

I don't actually have to send in my tax papers until 31 January next year, but all the data was complete last week and I can do it any time now. Or not.

Does everybody have to pay quarterly? Or just the high income earners, retired or businesses? I end up having to do quarterly estimated payments since I am retired and don't have regular income deductions from a paycheck.

Only commercial (shops and offices) is done to that rigid timetable. I think apartments and houses are usually paid monthly.

Thanks for the info Richard. Learned something new today.

On the aside . . . . please do post to NC about your experience running the Arecibo VLARs on the GTX 470. Also with which app, CUDA or SoG. Want to hear how you fair.

Since the database reorg and the removal of the Nvidia VLAR restriction, as long as there are tapes to be split, the project has been running on all cylinders with no issues getting work. Each task turned in gets its replacement on the same request.

Hope this is the "new" and permanent experience. Can't complain. Wish the reorg had happened a year ago.
