From main page, "problems with upload server, project down until it's fixed."

CLYDE! It's you! :) I've been meaning to pop in on you all for awhile - but you may have noticed I haven't. Maybe soon, although in the longish sense of that... I will. I need to receive and reflect upon a report on my ...erm... * leanings first - which I'm expecting sometime over the weekend... I think.

In the meantime - welcome to the boinc board, juan BFP :) Hope you and everyone else have a nice weekend.

* political - not any other ones *sidle out before anyone notices the word* ;)

The SETI web site appears to be in a flux state of up and down.
tried it about 5 minute ago and kept getting
setiathome.berkeley.edu took too long to respond.

Just retried and its working again

More to the point, the splitters on the Server Status Page are active again.

I don't know what's making this thread so slow to load all of a sudden, but it's caused me to change my forum preferences to show 100 posts per thread, instead of 200. If it loads slow for you too, know that the above is a good workaround.

Well, in Firefox 57.0.4 on a Mac 99% of it loads PDQ, but there is something taking forever, likely some picture or something stuck saying read boinc.berkeley.edu

The times I've noticed that recently, the something taking forever is boincstats.com, presumably as part of a poster's sig. As I'm set up that way, perhaps this message will show it if so.
Jim ...

[edit] This time it was gravatar.com, again presumably a sig?

Yes, I say someone is monkeying around in the lab, but on the weekend at this time of night, doubtful

This one was unusual at least at my end. It just stated "waiting for a TLS handsake from the site". 1st time I ever saw that.

Wow, something very strange that I have never seen before in the log after setting http_debug. It logged every header of every task downloaded including the RA/DEC,Julian time, tape info, block info, receiver etc. I don't remember it every doing that before and I have had http_debug on before this weekend as part of the dns issue troubleshooting while asking for work.

Can anyone confirm this is normal and I never noticed it before or something new? I also see reference to a server called https://www.netlock.net/docs or by e-mail at cps@netlock.net.
The request for work was only for about a dozen tasks but the download quickly exceeded the logfile limit and pushed out anything prior the request for work. Needless, to say http_debug is turned off again.

Yes, I've seen file contents 'leaking' into <http_debug> - clearly something's wrong. But it still seems to work, and I only turn on <http_debug> when I'm troubleshooting something more urgent. So I've never followed it up - largely because I'n reaching the point where I doubt that BOINC will ever fix any of the huge backlog of bugs.

But I'll try going back to v7.6.33 sometime, to see if this is "New in v7.8.3", or alternatively some change in the way the servers are setting up the file transfers.

OK, it happens under BOINC v7.6.33 as well, but rarely. Just done a bulk fetch from SETI (one request, got 48 tasks, and hence 48 download files). Of those, <http_debug> showed the contents (opening ~20 lines, maybe) of the scheduler reply and 3 of the 48 files. That sounds more like a bug than a deliberate policy.

And tested again on a machine running BOINC v7.8.3. Got 62 files, just one of which (plus the scheduler reply) was copied into the log. I was wrong about the number of lines copied - about 35 from the scheduler, 64 lines of data.
