I've got three Venus fly traps sitting on my kitchen windowsill. They've been there about seven years and seem to be quite happy. The occasional trap is shut so I'm assuming they've got the food they need 😀

It still surprises me at how quickly they move, day of the triffids I tells you 😀

I'm glad they're doing well :) We used to have sundews around and about where I was growing up, and I found them fascinatingly treacherous :/ and :\ but also :) because you have to admire such deviousness really.

I think my favourite for being just super-dramatic in its movements and not being carnivorous all rolled into one, is the mimosa nervosa though. We had them too :)

edit: there was another apostrophe @;@

Edit: removing my post, even though I still stand behind the point I made. Will leave the rest intact. The weird thing here? Never is there anyone who says 'Gosh, you're right! I am going to work on that!', nope, always the person saying it will be attacked and made out to be the bad guy.

Due to that this is my last post in this thread, perhaps even in this forum (The Lounge, not the overall BOINC forums).
All while I contemplate on asking David if it isn't a good idea to just do away with this forum as it's becoming more of a nuisance than a use. I don't want to moderate here no more.

And that's the other bullshit attitude I always get when pointing it out. As long as you're treating your language with that disrespect by choice, don't waggle your finger at others for anything else then, mister.

Guess I'll have to quit posting then, eh? While my spelling and grammar skills tend to be flawless, age and alcohol have rendered the fingers unwilling co-conspirators to the crime ... And I certainly don't devote the same attention to detail in a simple email that I might to a document destined for publication. Nor should I need to :)

A dead flytrap I have to rummage in a landfill site for was not quite what I was expecting when you said "raise" Chris. No. That there are still customs I'm not familiar with after over two decades of observing you all in your natural habitat, doesn't surprise me though.

No ;)

@Jord:
When will native English people stop adding the apostrophe in places where it doesn't belong?

I suddenly know why I'm doing it *pained frown* I'm turning English. I suppose it was inevitable really I've been here so long...

How do you think the rest of the world is going to learn

*blink at Jord* By watching us become really quite bad at it ourselves of course :) It's worked plenty of times before! Take those sports we exported to the colonies...

Whilst I'm here... I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any bad influence I may be having on others :) I can't help them ;)

@Cheers
Oooh a mimosa,

I managed to grow them from seed too :) but the seedlings are vulnerable to being "checked" to see whether they're "still working" - which is a bit like us thumping someone with a battering ram to see if they can still fall over.

Some of us have our feet on the ground in the real world

Some have much more than just their feet.

*reach for battering ram* Allow me to demonstrate...

:)

edit: There was a spelling mistake. Apparently "astonished blink" there are no f's in door...

Nor was it quite what I was expecting either Annie when I put finger to keyboard. Perhaps your observations could extend to alerts when certain items go missing...

You didn't notice? What, may I ask, have you been feeding the flies and tweezers to then...? Dinner guests?

*reach for battering ram* Allow me to demonstrate...

Ouch !

On myself!! To simulate the thumping, I'm going to charge towards that wall till I'm stopped...

edit: to say I didn't need to edit anything this time :)

Cup of tea? :)

Yes please :) If you could just pop it down next to my head...?

Prone! Much more than just my feet, I think you'll have to agree, people :)

that wall is listed

Did I point at that one...? I'm sorry. I meant this one :)

*swivel eyes at feet everywhere* So they're still on the ground... how small, exactly, does your horse have to be? ;)

till

to prepare the soil... for something.... yes I am hearing voices people, might have banged my head a little too hard during the demonstration :/

My commiserations, anniet ;-)

My last post was intended to be the last I made here. That has not substantively altered. I will thank those who have made these threads informative and a pleasant read however. I am of the view that without the intervention of moderators, it could not have been achieved. Theirs is a thankless task, so I thank them now, Jord in particular.

Take care all
Rod

Is it just me, or did the SSP just die?

SETI data servers were taken offline before 05:30 Berkeley time, and the forum pages before 06:00 - that's really early, even by Jeff's standards. Did he have a bad halloween, perhaps?

Project down for maintenance
Yes an early outrage it is and for an added bonus einsteinathome.org refused to connect.

About Einstein:
On Monday 2016-10-31 and Tuesday 2016-11-01, at 1400 UTC (both days) we will be turning off the einstein Web server front-end for some hardware maintenance. The time corresponds to 1500 CST and 1000 EDT. This downtime is only for the Web site. The E@H project will continue to run normally.

Einstein pre-announced a hardware upgrade for their web-server (only) - the actual science project is running as normal under the hood.
