Message 72696 - Posted: 28 Sep 2016, 0:26:28 UTC - in response to Message 72695.

Every Tuesday morning (Pacific time) we begin a four hour data distribution outage for database and systems maintenance.

It is now gone 6pm at the Seti lab and past 1am Wednesday morning in the UK. Most of the Seti servers are up except Muarae1 which runs the web pages. Is there a problem, or did some people piss them off yesterday?

It's definitely getting late, even for out there. Weird.

Especially if there is no news in the Modmail. Interesting.

More likely a big stink in the Politics part in Seti.
Still I find it curious, that the Mods there are also suppossedly clueless.

Given that, I also know, at times zipped lips are required.

Eric is generally most open out those issues, so hopefully we can have an update on the issue tomorrow.

I think it's more likely E.T. called collect and nobody could find the SETI credit card.

Especially since BETA is up.

At this point, looks like tomorrow morning as it is almost 9PM on the west coast.

Eric and I are currently in Guadalajara. Eric gave a talk at a conference here today. Jeff is holding down the fort for the week.

Hope this does not affect BOINC/SETI stuff at the colo in any way...
http://www.computerworld.com/article/3122998/it-outsourcing/university-of-california-s-ties-with-hcl-are-complicated.html

“The offshore outsourcing planned at the University of California's San Francisco (UCSF) campus is following a standard playbook. The affected employees expect to train their replacements as a condition of severance. Their jobs will soon be in India and they'll be out of work.”

---- snip -----
“The University of California's San Diego and San Francisco campuses are separate in the sense that they have their own chief executives and IT leadership. But the IT services contract with HCL negotiated by UCSF can be used at any of the 10 campuses in the 190,000-employee University of California system, said UCSF CIO Joe Bengfort, in a recent interview.”

So, the SSP is now 14 hrs behind, splitters are not running, and we are no longer getting tasks ... the bucket is empty, it would seem.
Posting here since the Panic Mode server is also down :)

Hmmmmmmmmmm.....
Get home from work and Seti is MIA. Not good. With the Guppies being slow going, hopefully my crunchers stay occupied until things are hopefully fixed tomorrow.
Do hope it's nothing too serious.

Meowsigh.

Interesting.

"Attending were representatives of nearly 20 UC institutions, including from the university's San Diego campus."

Do you know if UCB was one of those 20?

Worked with a guy who would buy a "near wreck" for a few quid (never more than forty quid). He would run it until the tax/mot ran out (which ever came first), then enter demolition derby, get rolled and come out with fifty quid to buy his next "car" with and repeat the cycle. He made a "mistake" one day, and was "last man standing", so could afford a slightly better car...

The meeting notes are linked from the CW article. Yes, Berkeley is a member of the group, and Gabriel Gonzalez is marked as present.
