Outrage on Wednesday has become the new normal, the only drawback I see is it will change the online preparations for Thor's day slightly different.

Unless they change it back after the holiday next week.
Just sayin'.

The home page says:
Weekly Outage and Initial Catch Up
Every Wednesday morning (Pacific time) we begin a four hour data distribution outage for database and systems maintenance. The upload/download servers will be offline during this time. Afterwards you may experience connectivity issues for several more hours as the servers catch up with demand. 30 Aug 2016, 16:27:57 UTC

so me thinks this is the new normal.

Could go either way.
Either they truly intend to switch to Wednesday outages, or they temporarily edited the info so there was no confusion this week and next.
In either case, it is inconsequential to the kitties which day it is scheduled for.

My money is on a usual Tuesday outrage, this week is just one of those weeks. It happens.

And possibly next week as well, with Monday being our Labor Day holiday.

Most people don't complain about the lack of uploading or downloading work during an outrage. The main bone of contention is about the lack of the forums while data-driven web pages on muarae1 are off air. If they kept that up, I doubt many people would give a monkeys what they do with the other servers for 1/2 a day.

The sad truth is that too many people use Seti as an alternative to Facebook and Twitter than for the science.

Hmmm. "It takes one to know one" ring any bells?

Chris why is that sad? In order to post there one has to do science also. No harm in posting and most do a reasonable amount of crunching.

According to Dr. K, the outrage was deferred to Wednesday this week so that they could release info on the HD 164595 signal.

So, I suspect it will be back to Tuesday next week.

It's back & surprisingly fast. Much faster than what I've been getting for a few days.

Last night I tried the update function of the AMD Radeon Settings window, meaning I updated the Crimson drivers without me uninstalling anything and having to reboot 3 times.

Worked surprisingly well.
The only thing it installed that wrecked my Windows immediately was AMD's Gaming Evolved app - Raptr - that kept on crashing my Windows Explorer until I uninstalled it. And I can tell you that uninstalling something while your Windows Explorer is crashing, restarting, crashing, restarting etc. is fun! Not.

But I managed to find a window of no crashes and since Raptr is gone, no more crashes.

May be their subtle way of announcing they're bumping it back a day forever ...

I doubt professional scientists could be bothered to be subtle Jim :-)) They tend to tell it how it is.

Need to work on my keyboard sarcasm, for sure ... %)

Nah - they don't tell us anything, they'll have a script for that:

"Every %Today% morning we begin a four hour data distribution outage for database and systems maintenance."

Seriously - they are so short-staffed that they will have automated everything it's possible to automate.

That is exactly correct. It updates automatically, and unfortunately that means that some people will get very upset if this results in a message with an error in it.

Honestly!!! I cannot even believe that this was a "thing"!!!

If this "newbie" read the "Wednesday" announcement then perhaps they will read the current announcement from Eric

Sorry about the misinformation on the weekly outage. When we're in outage mode the message uses the current day of the week as the day of the weekly outage. We will go back to Tuesday outage next week.

The delay in the outage this week was due to the media flap over the Russian announcement.

I'd have to say I'm pretty manic as a cruncher, but I do have to say I don't make a habit of checking the top page for notices. I get my idea of what's going on on the forums here ... If there's a general announcements message area, other than the top page, I guess I missed it.
Chris, I get what you're saying, but also have to say that the "newbies" aren't paying attention, and by the time they get that interested, if they do, they probably have a clue as to what's what.
As for social interaction, it only males sense that your interaction is with others interested in the same hobby that draws you here... Actual results don't matter much, there are no dues, it's the interest that matters, yes?
As far as losing users, it's far more likely that we lose newbies due to a perceived unfriendliness to newcomers in the forums than that supposed project instability.

Blowing that trumpet hard again I see. 1st some real facts for you.

1: Your seti rac is just under 52
2: Your seti tc is just 5% of that billion
3: Not many have the time & resources to crunch as heavily as you & others
4: You did not highlight people, you generalised
5: A green star & high RAC is not a requirement to crunch
6: Mantra & beliefs are all good & well, if one respects the fact that others have theirs - YOU do not have that respect

SO, if you got off your soapbox, it wouldn't be you against the world.

FYI with only 5% Seti crunched shows that you've crunched other projects, bear in mind that others have done that as Seti is not the be all & end off of Boinc.

Just to be fair to Chris Sirius , Chris crunches for the "raccoon lovers" team under the name of Chris S (2), and think you will find that he hasn't posted on the "main" pages for a few months now .

His RAC in the team is 41,644.41 so he is doing his bit b4 you start throwing acusations around

AH but my mantra & belief is just as good as his - OR are you suggesting otherwise?
I have no problem with what you said - However as seen & often it's his views or ELSE.

IMV secondary accounts don't count.

The way i see it , Angela started the team , there were 7/9 original people who joined at the start . Chris created a seperate acount to "crunch" for "Raccoon lovers" team .
Can't see anything wrong or underhand what Chris did , only thing is Chris posts here using his "old" avatar thing that was acociated with his acount on main .
Don't make much difference to me and can't work out why it should to anyone
