With it getting close to St. Patrick's Day, I think I might see if McDonald's is offering their Shamrock shake. :~)

Tsk. How dare you, they've all been anxiously awaiting your arrival and you've made them wait. Sorry I am late to corral them all, but I've been sleeping for 3 hours, due to painful problems with my neck- and shoulder muscles.

I see Windows Update has KB3035583 again, plus KB2952664 (definite we want to plant Windows 10 on your system updates), and one sneaky important update KB3138612 which will update the Windows Update client and although MS says it is to fix problems with Windows Update, most probably will add the nagware: advertisements about their new flagshi(t)(p).

KB2952664, our old "compatibility update" for upgrading Win7 to Win10, is back. The KB article says it's now up to revision 18. I wrote about this patch less than a month ago and have been writing about it since it first appeared in April 2014.

KB2976978 performs the same service for Windows 8 and 8.1.

KB2977759 does the same, except it's for Windows 7 systems that don't have Service Pack 1 installed.

KB3138612, version 1.0, is a new version of Windows Update, destined for Win7 and Server 2008 R2. Microsoft doesn't exactly describe what's new, but it does say that this version of Windows Update supersedes last month's KB 3135445.

KB3138615, version 1.0 -- a new version of Windows Update for Win 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 -- supersedes last month's KB3135449.

Yeah. It's been my belief that if you don't want 10, the nagware, nor the telemetry.. don't get any updates that improve or replace/upgrade the Update Client that were released or dated after July 2015. When the S@H forums are back up, my updates to avoid list contains all of those KB numbers.

There was a suspicion back in.. I think the September release of the Update Client that was suspected to automatically download and install all the nagware and updates needed to push 10... in the background, hidden, and without authorization/consent to do so. That was the point I decided new Update Clients can't be trusted and added them all to the list.

I figure it won't be long until those of us who don't want 10 will not have any option but to just turn updates off entirely. But for now, as long as there are still security updates coming.. we just have to stay vigilant and research all of the ones that show up.

Well it went down a bit earlier than normal and it still is not back so it stands to reason the people in the lab may have a special treat for us.

Uhhh...down already?

It's only 6:30 am in Berk. Not even Jeff is usually up THIS early.
Naw, somethin's gone away. Cannot even ping the server status page.
Pinged Eric, Matt, and Jeff.
Don't suspect any of them is up and about just now.
Might be a long day.

Are you still receiving WUs? I turned off MBs to have plenty of room for APs (I know - what a joke) and now that my MBs are getting low I cannot change my preferences. It looks like there will be a dry spell if I have to wait until after the usual Tuesday down time. :(

Well, the messages have been sent.
We shall see who the early bird is today.
But I doubt they shall bring things back up without doing today's outrage first.
Just my guess.

Just reported and got 6 new WUs.
So, not everything has gone away. My modem and router are still blinking furiously. So, not all is lost.

Carolyn or Oscar has probably decided to go to sleep...LOL. Web pages and such.

Since boinc cannot contact the preferences server, is there anything that can be changed in the client_state.xml file or another xml file to indicate you now want MBs?

I suspect if there is, it would not change back to not wanting MBs until the preferences server came back on line.
