Well, here's a nice warning of sorts. For you who aren't updating their Windows 7/8.1 because you rightfully fear a Windows 10 push-over, be warned that not updating Windows with all security updates/Windows own updates will eventually give you a warning that your Windows isn't genuine. You can solve that by letting those updates through. |

The rest of the time, in between meals, when I feel hunger pangs I eat cherry tomatoes. By the bucket. Love Cherry Tomatoes. We've been eating green, seedless grapes by the bucket. |

I just realised that my first ever post to the community was here and not on SETI, so I went and looked what it was I posted. Looks like it was the wishlist and I wanted BOINC to manage duration correction factors per application. Beware what you wish for... (ok I was probably not the only one :D) |

Wow... a blast from the past. Something I just found on my computer, while searching for a LinkedIn background image. Not a clue which BOINC version that is, but seeing that the deadline of the Seti task is end of June 2005, it's ancient! And look at the menu bar! |

Just another spam from the kittyman....... Regarding Windows Skynet (Spynet) edition. I had a number of updates going back weeks ago that I have refused to install to protect the integrity of the 7 installation on my daily driver. I had the 'updates are available' icon showing, but did not allow it to update anything. Recently, the computer was locking up for 5-10 seconds at a time, and was ticking me off. In task manager, one instance of svchost.exe was using tons of CPU time. I figured out that one of the services running under that instance of svchost was.....Windows Update. Stopped the service, set it to disabled, and rebooted. Simple as that. No more Update icon. And the computer is much more responsive now. I checked, and there are no other services that depend on having the Windows Update service running, so I am hoping that is the end of the nuisance. Not sure if it will affect updating any other programs in the future, but if so I can manually restart it if needed. Meow for now. |

Okay, I noticed we all had lost the intent of this thread. Let me reiterate: Rules: If you feel the need to discuss in-depth the way that others use project fora, please be so kind to continue to do so in the Politics thread. |

The clean up robots are fully recharged and should have the place spruced up in time for the outrage. @Jord, sorry for getting off topic in my own thread. |
