Greetings.

I am 90% sure this is a Vista problem - but I wanted to check with the most knowledgable people in the world first. :-)

I have a 4 core amd-64 HP running Vista.

I am running BOINC 7.0.28 (x64)
I run WCG, Malaria Control, and LHC@home with 100% of the CPU

I have the screensaver set to: none
and I have the power management set to turn off the display after 15 minutes.
and
"Put the computer to sleep": Never

If I leave all alone for 15 minutes or so, the display turns off
-as it should.

If I wiggle the mouse, The display restarts - as it should.

Here is the problem:
--------------------

If I go away for *more* than a day:
- the display is blank.
- the display (Acer) is in power off mode.
- the PC is on and running.
- Wiggle the mouse and nothing happens.
- Hit "enter" and nothing happens.
- Hit "Ctrl" and nothing happens.
- Power off and on the display and it says "No Signal."
But
Hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete - the screen starts.
Then select Task Manager - to get out of the Ctrl-Alt-Delete sequence
and all is OK.

The time remaining and tasks running show that BOINC was active all the time.

I am running BOINC 7.0.28 (x64)

I have been running BOINC for years on this PC and this is a new 'feature' :-) .

I used Google for a search and found only references for people getting the set-up configuration for the screensaver/power option - trying to get it to start.

I think it is funny - trying to get it to wake up...

I'm stumped.
So has anyone else seen this?
Should I cast my fate to the winds of the Microsoft forums?

Thanks in advance,

Jay

PS
Other background tasks are:
- Printer daemon
- Nvidia Settings daemon
- Avira anti-virus (scans when BOINC is suspended.)
- The usual Vista scheduled tasks.
- a copy of the defrag task set to run every day when BOINC is suspended
- wifi connection
- Vista Updates checker.

You may want to check if you have an extra setting in the computer's BIOS pertaining the sleeping/waking of the monitor. Or that the monitor's drivers are up-to-date (enough). Perhaps that Windows 'forgets' how to wake a monitor after an hour.
