I'm running BOINC 7.0.28 (widgets 2.8.10) on Windows XP Pro (5.1, SP3), using a 3.00 GHz Pentium 4 (two apparent processors). I'm running SETI@Home as a project. There are two work units running at the same time, so I conclude that BOINC found two processors. My (on-board) GPU is not usable.

I'm replacing an older (dying) Win XP Home computer and I re-installed BOINC. But I think I messed up. I installed BOINC via and administrative account and I do everything else via a user level account.

My biggest problem is that when I log out of my administrator account, BOINC exits as well (my processor usage goes WAY down and my machine is mostly idle if I'm not doing anything). A work-around it to leave the admin account logged in, but with no "active" tasks. Then, my processor usage remains high even when I'm logged into my user account and I'm not doing anything.

A minor problem is that when I installed BOINC, I specified that "all users can control BOINC" but my current user account can't. There was a message about enabling something like "BOINC_Administrator" but I failed to write it down.

This is a less serious problem, but I'd still like to get the solution, as this Windows XP computer is an interim platform and I'd like to know how to do it in about a month when I transition YET AGAIN to another refurbished PC. I expect at that time to turn this one into an Ubuntu computer (as my main computer) and link it to the new Windows XP Pro (refurb) box. I hope to run BOINC on both boxen.

I do not intend to abuse any folks on account of their race, religion, gender, class, or sexuality.

My (on-board) GPU is not usable.

In this case you can re-install BOINC and select:
'Protected application execution'
(== service mode, == running as a daemon)

This will make BOINC run even when no-one is log-in

(but remember - if you put in the future a 'capable' GPU do not use 'Protected application execution')

OK. I guess what I'll do is let it slide for now but (SETI@Home) tell it not to get any new work units. That way, when I run out of work, I'll probably be ready to set up the new newer newest (refurb) Win XP box and put BOINC on it.

Thanks.
