Hello all, My ISP gives F-Secure for free in the subscription as a replace for McAffee. However since the update of F-Secure I have problems with uploading of LHC@home and Rosetta@home. Einstein@home is still working fine. The provider and F-Secure don't know how to handle the problem. Booting the PC and flushing dns, does not work, neither does disableing the F-Secure firewall. Removing F-Secure results in the ready WU's to upload immidiately. Does anyone know how to solve this huge problem? LHC is generating HTTP error messages, if that my help. Thanks a lot. Greetings from, TJ |

The solution is to exclude the BOINC data directory and all of its files and sub-directories from being (actively) scanned by your AV scanner. Only scan in here manually, after you exited or suspended BOINC. |

Do I need to reboot the system? Greetings from, TJ |

Well 2 days for the deadline and than again 39 hours of cpu time lost thanks to f-secure. Greetings from, TJ |

Well, it's something you'll have to ask the makers of F-secure then. |

Well, it's something you'll have to ask the makers of F-secure then. I asked them I even plead them but they don't know. Could be Iolo they guess, but I have another computer with an old version of f-secure with Iolo and no ploblems. I even asked the provider (XS4ALL) who give f-secure for free with the subsription but they also don't know. I will go back to McAffee later but have to buy then 6 licencies. Am I the only one in the BOINC community with this problem? I can hardly imagine. Greetings from, TJ |

I said goodbye to KPN (father of XS4All and Planet) when they disconnected me without sufficient cause, moved to Ziggo, never looked back. Cable does give (me at least) the speed they advertise. I've got a 120Mbit connection and 14.9MB/sec. downloads. But then you must have that possibility of course, not everyone can (easily) swap to another provider. But then, I did a Google search and found this thread at F-Secure forums, looks like it is F-Secure being overly secure. Also see this thread. This person fixed it by Uninstalling the "Online Safety" function. |

Thanks, I look there but did not find any 'online safety' in my f-secure subsription.` Well then no more crunching for LHC and Rosetta, until I have new firewall. Greetings from, TJ |

According to the second post, the Online Safety is a separate program and can be uninstalled through Uninstall a program (the old Add/Remove Programs in Windows). Start->Control Panel->Programs->Uninstall a program. But tell me, what's wrong with Windows firewall? And I bet that there's a hardware firewall in your modem/router, so there's always protection. Most problems occur on systems that don't have any firewall installed, and are connected directly to the internet, or where its owners can't stand the urge to click links in their emails. (Zo ben jij toch niet? ;)) |

Start->Control Panel->Programs->Uninstall a program. That's what I thought but no it is something within f-secure. The point is that all worked fine until an update from f-secure. And I want an extra firewall/virusscanner just to be sure. Indeed mails from people I don't know will be deleted without opening. No doubt about that ;-). Greetings from, TJ |

@TJ, I'm also having the exact same 'upload' issue with FS-IS 2013 & have been working with F-Secure Tech Support on it. they are aware of the issue. BOINC runs fine with FS-IS completely un-installed, re-installing FS-IS the issue re-appears etc.. so its definitely on F-Secures end. Unfortunately you cant just ‘exclude the BOINC data directory’ etc. with FS-IS as you can with many AV/FW programs for some strange reason. hopefully they will allow more user control in future. TY. When my Kaspersky ran out, instead of paying for another year I got Microsoft Security Essentials which is a freebie. It was very easy to download and install and is working fine. Microsoft know about BOINC which isn't surprising as they're giving some support to at least one of the projects. When Which? consumer magazine in the UK tested it they thought it was good enough. I do still only do scans after exiting from BOINC though. |

@mo.v- If you use MSE?, you might want to check out this report I just seen the other day? - http://securitywatch.pcmag.com/none/303867-kaspersky-and-norton-earn-aaa-protection-rating “McAfee and Microsoft didn't do well enough to earn any award at all.” so Bad they didn't even get an F-?! LOL!... from a Free product you can kind of understand?, but from one of the Biggest Paid AV in the world?! = OUCH!?!... I also used MSE up to about a year ago when wile casually going to Amazon.ca? BLAM!?! I got nailed by a ‘Fake AV’. since that day I've Literally tried every AV/FW known to man! LOL!. I finally recently settled on F-Secure because The Fins are Good People!(among other things ofcorse) I'd rather have an ‘Over Secure’ Security program then one that doesn't deserve a score?! LOL!. |

As far as the whole F-Secure & Uploads thing? - I did a Remote Session with their Tech Support last night & they gathered all the necessary data to ‘Escalate’ the problem etc.. very strange stuff, but their working on it! :-) |

Thanks for the comments, RMc-C. I've looked at your link and am thinking about what you say. |

F-Secure had a working solution, but with the new update from late October it went into trouble again. I have had some beta versions and they are still working on a solution. So the support from F-Secure is very good and one of the best AV around according to several tests. Working on the issue is a bit hard at the moment as Rosetta can't be reached. Greetings from, TJ |

I'm very interested, cause I have the same issues (files not uploading, xs4all f-secure). Except Ibercivis and World Community Grid, none of my projects upload |

As of 'F-Secure Internet Security 2013 (Release 3)' http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/home_global/support/installers the problum now seems to be finally fixed! :-) |
