Recently shifted over to BOINC 7.0.25. Things seemed to go smoothly, and I guess it's my fault I didn't check closer at the time. Apparently, this new version does not recognize my GPU settings, nor does it "see" my NVIDIA GPU. The various tasks I had running at time of changeover now report the following error --> "GPU missing, waiting to run (0.xxx CPUs + CUDA GPU (missing))". *NOTE* "0.xxx" is some value of CPU involvement, and is different for different projects.

I've taken time to clear and re-establish my system settings both for BOINC and the affected projects, but these tasks remain stalled. I'd be most grateful for some direction on this problem.

Oh yes, I'm running Windows XP on a dual-core Althon with a NVIDIA GT680 card ..

If I've lived this long, I gotta be that old

Might you be running as service mode/Protected Application Execution?

If so, this exchange may be of assistance.

Having a similar problem. Couple days ago got my first gpu tasks. Working fine till yesterday when it began saying 'GPU MISSING'. Running AMD FX 8core with radeon 6770. Prior to v7 I wasn't getting any gpu units. I saw somewhere that the 6700 series wasn't supported anymore but then it was or is now? Not sure. Just wondering why it suddenly can't find my GPU...

Are you using windows Remote Desktop to reach that host?

All versions of AMD GPUs are supported, it's just that some aren't recognized by name or group name. That's because that BOINC then doesn't have the right naming scheme included. Your GPU will then be an "Unknown AMD GPU". Besides that name, it'll run fine.

Detection problems are normally caused by:
- Driver problems.
- Service installation.
- Windows remote desktop usage.

Tried reinstalling drivers, still no go. Going to try installing the older Asus drivers for the card and see if there's any difference.

Not using remote desktop. (at least that I'm aware of)

No service installion that I know of.

Windows 7 64-bit, ASUS 6770 Radeon. Didn't work at first when I installed it, then it started working after the upgrade to v7 then it just started saying missing GPU. Tis making me insane. :)

I'll letcha know what happpens with the ASUS drivers as opposed to the radeon updated drivers.

Well, I found out that I had remote desktop enabled. I thought it was disabled by default on a new win7 install. Guess not, or, someone was remotely access my comp. Either way, it's disabled now. Back to computing. Also used some older ASUS drivers for the video card. Not sure what fixed it, but will try updating the radeon drivers back to the newer release and see if it still computes with the GPU in BOINC.

Thanks for the help and advice about remote access. Makes me a lil weery now that someone might have had access to my desktop. Will post again after I update the drivers again and see if that causes a problem or if it still works. Again, thanks.

First I want to apologize if I hijacked this thread. it was not my intention to do so.

I have the GPU working again. I am using the ASUS drivers for the EAH6770 video card v8.861.0.000. The newest drivers direct from AMD are v8.950.0.0000. These drivers are causing POEM and BOINC to say GPU Missing. The older drivers work fine. Hopefully game performance is up to par.

I don't know if disabling the remote access did anything. Sort of a relief. Turned out to by the updated drivers causing the issue.

Finally, back to crunching on this new box :)

Thanks for the help as I said earlier.

I'd be curious to see if others are having problems with the updated radeon drivers as well...

One more side note. I have the full version of The Sims 2 and 3 installed. After I updated the radeon drivers The Sims 2, not 3, would pause like mad. Didn't make any sense to me since this is 8 core 3.1ghz 16gig ram machine with a 6770 graphics chip and using the latest drivers... But, again, it was these new drivers causing all the problems. Never had a problem like this b4 doing a driver update, but live and learn :)

After reverting to the old drivers direct from the video card manufacturer and not from AMD I got BOINC working great again crunching some data GPU style AND The Sims 2 no longer pauses. Runs smooth as anything.

Fixed 2 birds with one BOINC :)

Ha ha, upgraded to a XFX 2gb with a radeon 6950. Everything running smoothly now. Seems that ASUS EAH6770 card was overheating with whatever I threw at it. Games, basic video, and ESP the BOINC gpu research work units. Tears up work units now, and everything working fine with lastest 12.4 CCC set of drivers from AMD.
