Hello , I've just decided to use my old PC to help out inhabitors of planet earth :)
However running ./boinc_manager on Centos 6 x64 , gives me following error perhaps , anyone can help me out?

./boincmgr: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

It may seem to be trivial, but I am not a hardcore linuxist, please help me :)

Ok, nevermind, older version of boinc 6.10.58, works fine.

Encounter the same problem.
when i try to launch ./run_manager
i get:

i use linux mandriva 2010.2 x86_64 version - look in update center, and not fing an libssl for my system.

sadly, in boinc homepage, in download section only one version is available -

and that no works with rteason, who i write earlier.
it is a very sadly - i running SETI on my computers from approx 1998, and i last years boinc soft going to be a more and more buggy, imho...:(

Not so. BOINC from Berkeley just cannot be built for all Linux distros out there, that's impossible with all the different kernel versions and library requirements. So BOINC from Berkeley is built against Ubuntu, 10.10 or 11, I forget which. It'll be fully compatible with that version.

If you want a fully compatible version for your distro, check out the package manager. BOINC 6.12.34 is the latest recommended), since BOINC 7 isn't released yet. So package manager maintainers are hesitant to add BOINC 7, due to it still being in development.

When you get such an error message, either check whether your system actually has the library version BOINC asks for, or symlink towards where it is. Try ldd boinc and ldd boincmgr (that's el dee dee) to see all the libraries needed and what's installed on your system and where.

you are completely wrong in this case.
at first, i absolutely sure, boinc can be build for compiled in, or at all not requile SSL libraries.
on second - always be good go the minima way - i e minimal modules and libs requirements for running soft. maximal ¨static¨ way.
also, maximal compatibility is BOINC makers problem. i not migrate toubuntu only for runniong boinc. better i live without boinc- that i much easier than fight with boinc related problems.

¨BOINC 6.12.34 is the latest recommended)¨ - a time ago in download page i can easy choice from latest, not so latest and so - various - versions. now i see only one choice - latest - who not working on mandiva. as i see, on centos soo. it is a silly idea, imho - restrict ¨download¨ area to only one, ¨last¨ version. especially, if it is not working.

As I mentioned earlier version 6.10.58 works without a hassle on CentOS 6 x64.

anyone ever able to run boinc 7 or 6.12 on older machines?

seems that old centos has openssl 0.9.8 in packets
and yum update cant install openssl 1.0

so ./boinc fails
