Has anyone tried an E-450 CPU with an HD 6320 integrated GPU to crunch any of the existing "ATI" GPU projects? (including those requiring double-precision?)

TIA, Ray

OK, found out the hard way ($$$).

The good news is that an E-450 CPU with an HD 6320 integrated GPU will crunch "ATI" GPU projects as follows:-

ATI-friendly project / E-450 HD6320 GPU process result:-

Collatz / yes
Milkyway / no (project requires a Double Precision GPU)
Moo! / unknown just now as no tasks received, but probably OK
PrimeGrid / yes
SETI Enhanced / unknown just now, but probably OK

The bad news - temperatures!

Ray
The rest is off-topic but worth a read?
At an ambient of 21C this box runs at the highest temperatures that I have ever seen on any PC that I have ever owned.

With a GPU task running & 2 CPU tasks running @ 50%.
CPU max 70C.
GPU max 70C.

The box is a Compaq CQ1140UK net top. Smart fan enabled - runs at 100% all the time when any significant load is applied.
No intake nor exhaust fan present. I quickly jury-rigged a small auxiliary external fan to move some air "at", rather than properly through, the rear vent and that dropped things down a lot:-

With a GPU task running & 2 CPU tasks running @ 50%.
CPU max 63C.
GPU max 64C.

A lot more airflow work needed on this box. Goodbye warranty!
PS: this CPU/GPU combo appears in laptops too ... {shudder} ... maybe good if your CH fails this winter? I dread to think what will happen in summer!

UPDATE

ATI-friendly project / E-450 HD6320 GPU process result:-

Moo! / yes

Ray
More off-topic ...
Ambient 21C
After a couple of hours modding the case without voiding the warranty:-

CPU max 57C (-13c)
GPU max 58C (-12c)

Still pretty hopeless for a net top :-(
FWIW There is a relatively huge amount of space inside this box so thermal cramping is just not an issue. Laptops be aware.
FWIW2 At these temperatures the internal, automatically thermally controlled fan runs at 80% RPMs about 99% of the time.
FWIW3 Filtered air is being fanned in. No exhaust fan (just yet).

FINAL UPDATE

See http://s65.photobucket.com/albums/h216/Ray_GTI-R/CQ1140/

72C down to 48C on-load (with dust filter! A cheap solution and much success to follow?)

Hi,
I'm running SETI and Albert on a mixed system wit A8 APU and HD5830 (and nVidia as well).
Works fine, but requires BM 7.0.3 min.
