Hi! I tried using BOINC on Ubuntu a while back and it wouldn't detect my GPU so I gave up. I've decided to give it a proper go this time and as it's still not detecting my GPU I thought I'd pop in here for some advice. Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit BOINC 6.10.59 (from Ubuntu repos) ATI FGLRX 11.5 driver Is there anything I need to do above and beyond installing the application in order to get the GPU to work? |

That didn't work... Still saying no usable GPUs detected. |

Thanks for trying NATE1 |

One of the other fixes on that page worked for me, so thanks for posting NATE1! Now I just have the problem of an empty projects list... |

I'm now having another problem... For some reason the tasks that look to be GPU ones (usually with ATI in the name) seem to be finishing after about 7 seconds with no output file no matter which project I use. |

Not sure which bit of info you were wanting me to provide... If it's which projects I tried, it was Collatz, Moo! and PrimeGrid. I couldn't see how the issue could be project-specific when it affects me for all the ATI Linux 64-bit projects. |

NATE, thanks for that. Yeah, my GPU is a 4350/4550. I guess they just don't like it or something. :( |

Hi Dagorath... I'm running the latest proprietary driver from AMD for an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series. It's reporting 512MB of VRAM and BOINC is detecting my GPU. Apparently the shader in the card has 128-bit precision, which I think is the part you are asking about? Some projects just say they don't have GPU workloads for me, while others complete in about 7 seconds with no output file, yet hardware acceleration works fine outside BOINC. |

Based on this information from Milkyway@home it seams that your card can't be used to run DP app's like Milkyway. |

Quite a bit happened since the 6.10.59 package. Please go for 6.12.26+ which is most likely available from https://launchpad.net/~pkg-boinc/+archive/ppa (just checked, 6.12.18 seems to be the lastest one, anyway). Maybe you can install 6.12.33 from the Oneiric Ocelot? https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinc For some mysterious reason, the regular Linux BOINC packages are still with 6.10.58. 6.12.33 is working just fine for me - not having tested the GPU support. |
