Whenever I need to use any of my rigs intensively, I close down BM with "shut down apps" checkmarked.

Until recently, I've never had problems with this. However, since upgrading all rigs to 6.12.26, still found systems sluggish when BM closed down.

On checking task manager earlier today, found that all 5 wu's (various projects) still running, so ended their processes & regained full use of system.

Approx 5 minutes ago, needed to use my main system for videoing purposes so shut down BM. Unfortunately, still found 2 wu's running.

Is this a problem with the latest version or a problem somewhere on my systems?

Which projects? which apps? CPU or GPU, or both?

I have same problem with 6.12.26.Sometimes boinc manager didnt prompt window ,exited directly ,leave apps running .I must ran boinc manager again manually in order to close apps.(And the re-running boinc manager can exit correctly .)

And I had noticed that when boinc manager main window·s title was ‘BOINC Manager ()’ ,the problem would happen .But when its title was ‘BOINC Manager’ without brackets , It would prompt window and exit correctly .

I wish BOINC can cancel 6.12.26 ,and roll version back to 6.10.58 ASAP .Because Its harmful to my laptop ,when my laptop was too hot I usually exit boinc, But now it will keep running apps and my laptop always running to die(too hot) .Maybe this version will reduce my laptop·s age forever .

I'm also experiencing this problem. When I tell BOINC to exit from the BM in the system tray, it often closes BM but not the applications. My CPU will continue to run at 100%. When I relaunch BM and exit again, all applications shut down as they used to with all previous BM versions.

Applications are SETI, Milkyway, and Einstein. I don't believe this is a problem related to the applications, I suspect it is BM itself not issuing kill commands.

Does anyone see the BOINC manager exit dialog?

Else, what's the status of it?
BOINC Manager->Advanced view->
For 6.12 and above: Tools->Display and network options...->General->Is "Enable Manager exit dialog?" checked? If not, do so and click OK to save changes.
For 6.10 and below: Advanced->Options->General->Is "Enable Manager exit dialog?" checked? If not, do so and click OK to save changes.

No one is forcing you to run BOINC. If you feel it is doing harmful things to your hardware, uninstall BOINC. You have the choice, there is no requirement to run BOINC at any time!

Does anyone see the BOINC manager exit dialog?

I'm also often experiencing the problem too. Manager/Exit, it disappears and leaves the client running; then relaunch Manager and exit again.

Upon the relaunch, I always do get the exit dialog with "Terminate tasks' calculation too" pre-checked and it will always terminate the client. But I'm not that sure about seeing the dialog first, when the Manager will terminate just itself alone. Whether just sometimes, or really never... (I'd bet that I've seen the dialog first, in some cases, but not for sure.) I'll try to remember it, if I'll see the dialog and the client will be left running afterwards.

My impression matches that: "No see exit dialog, exit dialog choices not actioned". I'm wondering if this can be linked to the "graphics button greyed out" that others are reporting, and Charlie is looking into. Seems to happen under similar circumstances.

How is BOINC started on your systems and under which operating system? Can you all please post that? Also with which BOINC versions you've seen this, so far?

e.g.
Through the registry at Windows start-up?
As a service?
Manually starting the client first, then the manager?

In my case:

For my two Windows 7 machines, I use -
- normal mode: automatic "run manager at login" from registry.
- maintenance mode: no autorun, start when needed from Manager shortcut on desktop/start menu.

For XP machines -
- installed as service, start and stop services using services control panel, run Manager from shortcut only when needed.

But I don't think the issue is so prevalent on XP.

And version numbers?

(I'd mostly quote Richard:)

You too. {slap}

:)

Let me rephrase that: From which BOINC version did you see this behaviour? When you're an alpha tester, did you see it in alpha versions?

I have the feeling it has to do with how opening a second BOINC Manager has changed... thread is known to the developers.

Slap accepted, but, for me, hard to say, for how long...

I have the feeling it has to do with how opening a second BOINC Manager has changed...

I think that this could be a pretty good estimate. (Or, 3-7 months, guessed in hard numbers.) Sometimes when two Managers are open, if I want to terminate the client, both windows looks the same, but I often have the feeling that "the window just closed without asking, because I've incorrectly chosen the newer one".

I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave some moments ago....

OK, I posted in boinc_alpha on 17 April in relation to v6.12.22, but quoted an earlier report from Carola Tralau dated 18 November 2010, referencing v6.12.6

No, the exit dialog was not visible as I set it to turn off the science applications upon exit and remember the decision a long time ago on a previous version of BOINC (I couldn't tell you which one).

I enabled the exit dialog, noticed the "stop science on exit" box was already checked, and saved the configuration. Since then I have successfully been able to exit BM from the system tray and have the applications stop. I re-selected the option to remember the decision and all is still working correctly.

My system is Windows 7 x64 Home. BOINC starts automatically upon login via the registry start, not the service. I have only seen this problem on BOINC 6.12.26. The previous BOINC client was 6.10.58. I have not run any BOINC beta clients.
