I installed V7 a few hours ago...
It has finished two WUs since then.
And the graph only updates when it completes a WU.
The display of the eight active tasks stays static.

If BOINC update this file my gadget updates too.
For any reason BOINC update data randomly (I don't know how)
For me it is from seconds to hours

With "graph" I assume you mean the four rectangular statistics graphs. They are painted according to the contents of the ".../BOINC/statistics_proj_name_org.xml" (or similar) files. As soon as a finished task is reported to some project proj.name.org, it then takes few seconds-minutes-hours-days to validate the result and grant the task some credit. Afterwards, the next time your BOINC client will contact the project, this "statistics_.***.xml" file gets updated.

If your client does finish tasks from some project in regular intervals (say, 1 hour), it is possible, that with each contact the credits were already updated, but it is also possible, that the credits will change only once in a couple of hours, another time in a couple of days, yet another time in a few seconds after the contact...

With "display of the eight active tasks" I assume you mean the bar graphs, symbolizing the tasks' progress. Their state is indeed read from "client_state.xml", but it depends on the task's application, how often does it report its progress to the BOINC client. Which project's app is it?

Version 7.1 has been released. Added 'Custom Project Name' field into flyout window. New projects added.

The graphs (when using them just occasionally) would be much more comfortably accessible using the Flyout window - you could consider adding them also there?

Difficult to coding now for me. I'm thinking. You always can hide graphs using #3 settings page

Hey guys... the "client_state.xml" is only being updated when a task completes.
So the BAR data on your gadget will not change until a completion event occurs.
I guess the "checkpoint" option within the BOINC manager relates to data only.
Maybe the "client_state.xml" file can be refreshed according to this parameter?
Then the gadgets BAR data would be updated correctly when it refreshes next...
Thanks KraftR

Going the GUI RPC route will get up-to-date information, all gathered in one place.

BOINC hasn't re-written client_state.xml agressively for a while now, because of the heavy workload it involves with multi-core CPUs and now GPUs. Progress updates have been transferred to individual boinc_task_state.xml files in each slot directory since sometime in 2009.

Thanks folks...that seems like a simple lightweight change...
I can see the file contention if the client file was updated.

You right Richard Haselgrove
I'm working on this problem right now. I hope soon we will have new version BOINC Monitor. This version will have two modes:
1. standard (uses now)
2. advanced (reading data from individual boinc_task_state.xml)
Be patience

Thanks for the name-check, but I still think file-scraping is the wrong way to go for the long term. Biting the bullet and switching to RPC will give you greater flexibility and more possibilities, as I suggested in your original thread.

It's not only the wrong thread, it's also the wrong forum. And moreover, it's the wrong site! ;-)

Try asking at Questions and answers over at the SETI@home project.

Gundolf
