Message 38245 - Posted: 7 Jun 2011, 17:18:30 UTC - in response to Message 38171.

Looks like they are back in 'working on it' mode over at Dnet.

Spinhenge caught the dysfunctional AC virus from MW and has been offline for several days.

DNETC has been offline a few days and they say it should be back soon. All the admins said was "project will be offline from 02 June" and not when it'll be back.

Connect to server fails with "cannot open logfile" so...I'd imagine they are significantly upgrading....

I haven't had any problems with DNETC since about 2030 UTC yesterday (4 June)...

Dnet remains totally offline -- no news about when (if) it will return. Spinhenge has recovered from its air conditioning problem.

I'm not sure what you're experiencing, Bruce. Other than a handful of download errors, I'm not having any problems that I can tell. I've been downloading, reporting, and getting credit without interruption for at least the last three days.

I just e-mailed The Lattice project Admin and got the following back as to why they are offline.
The machine that hosted the lattice BOINC project suffered a hardware failure. Currently I have no estimate of when we'll have everything back online.

any one have any news on the hardware failure at The Lattice project ?
or any estimate when they may be back on line ?

The Lattice Project (http://boinc.umiacs.umd.edu) is down until further notice. We are trying to set up a hardware environment in which to get the server up and running again. I expect progress within the next couple of days, but do not have a definite time frame in which we'll be back. Perhaps a week or two, as an outside estimate. Sorry for the unexpected disappearance...

Just incase no one knows it Adam is the project Admin @ The Lattice Project. He is the man responsible for the servers and the day to day running of the project.

Dnet is back up and running -- so of course, MW is offline..

Virtual Prairie is temporarily down.

From Lisa Merkl:
I heard back from the professor, and he said one of his people had to turn off the server, because it was sending out malware. He is looking into it to see if it has been fixed.

Looks like someone kicked a server as work is flowing again. The download pipe is showing as maxed out.

Dnetc appears to be having another one of their unannounced and then after recovery happens unremarked on outages.

DNETC is confirmed offline - connection and ping time out.

There have been a lot of issues with their server lately. I don't think they actually have it back yet, so they may be running a sort of motley combination of backups until everything is 100% back to normal. I've got a bunch of WUs from them I downloaded yesterday, so it's probably (hopefully) a minor glitch.

WUProp@Home is also offline - infinite loop when connecting, then timeout. BOINC sees it as "feeder not running" but in reality it looks like a problem with both the BOINC side of things and the data-driven webpages, as I cannot access the site to find out what's wrong!

Indeed, the pattern seems to be that they go unexpectedly and unannounced offline, then, after some number of hours or days, come unremarked or commented upon online.

I can understand the reliability problems (though they did mention two weeks ago they were upgrading hardware to something more reliable -- though, as per the norm for Dnet, no follow up information), but I find the lack of information from them to be tedious at best.

I must be a reverse psychic or something...within the hour following my post both DNETC and WUProp@Home came back online...though I don't know how long the former's stability will last. I think they may have had some residual server troubles following their latest challenge, perhaps.
