I went thru the project list, and was abit turned off on the number of links to project sites that failed. What would be a good suggestion for boxes with lots of ram, multi processor, and network bandwidth on a 64bit platform. (in this case, Windows 2008 r2) Thanks |

ClimatePrediction (CPDN) usually has three types of climate model available, though sometimes there are only two. The server status page shows what there is at the moment: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/server_status.html The HadSM slab models are not very resource-intensive but are quite long so a fast computer helps. FAMOUS isn't very resource-intensive but has fairly big downloads and uploads so anyone who hasn't got a tight network limit can help. HadAM3P regional models (Pacific NW, S Africa and Europe) are resource-hungry and have big uploads and downloads so help is always welcome. Even computers with lots of RAM will probably find that running a full load of them ie on every core isn't a good idea as they may slow each other down. It's best to run some alongside HadSM or FAMOUS, or tasks from other projects. If you have Linux you'd need the 32-bit compatibility libraries for all climate models. All model types come with very interesting graphics. The News thread which is on the CPDN forum at the top of the Number Crunching section and on the alternative forum here (you register separately there) should keep members up-to-date with what they need to know. So new crunchers are always welcome at CPDN. |

Aqua@home is 64-bit and and uses MT where you would put your boxes to use the most, but i would choose several backups.... not to be basis, but choose Hydorgen@home.org, and boinc.drugdiscoveryathome.com as two backup projects to aqua as they can sometimes give you work....
