Am getting message "you currently have 0.00MB available and it needs ..." but there is plenty of free space and limits in setup are not near reached. Am puzzled. Has anyone else encountered this? Thx.

What are the limits set up in your preferences (local and online)?

I have the same problem on Einstein, Seti and Climate. I have just been setting up today. Perhaps the problem will go away as this is new accountS?
Did you solve your issue?

It will not go away on its own and it has nothing to do with the age of the account.

I repeat my question I asked the original poster:
What are your preferences regarding
Disk: use at most ... GB
Disk: leave free at least ... GB
Disk: use at most ...% of total
And additionally:
What is the capacity of the BOINC drive and how many space is left?

Gundolf

Got the same problem. I am running manager 6.10.58 and in the advanced prefs I defined to let BOINC use at most 10GB. The drive has 33GB free but BOINC manager says that only 300MB is used for BOINC. Often I get the message that SETI or Einstein needs more disk space but that there is no more available.

See my previous post in this thread for preferences to check.

There's a line in the Messages tab after a restart of BOINC like this:
17/09/2010 14:06:16||Preferences limit disk usage to 1.86GB
What does BOINC say on your machine?

Mine says "max disk usage: 0.29GB". I have not been able to find out where this limit is defined. The machine preferences are set to 10GB, the project preferences at the web site dialogs were currently set to 6GB.

How big is the hardrive? and what are the other two preferences related to Disk usage set to?

OK,
HD is 150GB with the primary OS partition of 50GB capacity containing the BOINC data directory and currently 32GB empty, another data partition with capacity of 100GB and 34 GB empty.
The disk preference BOINC settings are
"use at most 10GB"
"leave at least 2GB free"
"use at most 100% of total disk space"

Okay, that sounds reasonable, but the "100%" look suspicious for me (programming error?). Try perhaps
"leave at least 1GB free"
"use at most 90% of total disk space" just to be sure.

Done that already. Then max disk usage drops down even further, to something like 0.26GB (90%, and "at least 1GB")or less depending on the actual preference settings.

Can you get any hints from the Disk tab (total disk usage)?

free, not available to BOINC: 32.9GB

Now the question is: why are those 32.9GB not available to BOINC?

Did you check online and local preferences? The local ones take precedence!

What happens if you Clear the local preferences? is it worse?, or does it fix the problem?

that made it worse, then the max disk usage is 0.15GB instead of 0.26GB

Which takes us back to:

free, not available to BOINC: 32.9GB

Is the free space not really free then, is it being used by the OS for swap space or something?

What have you got 'Use at most xx.xx % of page file (swap space) set to? mine's set to 75%

O.K, what happens if you set the figures to the following:

Use at most 10 GB disk space

Leave at least 0.1 GB disk space free
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored)

Use at most 50% of total disk space
