Another project with server problems, leading to a long shutdown:

From the BOINCSIMAP site front page
BOINCSIMAP will move to a new location onto new hardware
Due to the move of parts of the BOINCSIMAP crew to Vienna in 2010, this project is now a joint project of the Technical University Munich and the University of Vienna.

The recent series of power faults, combined with defects of the UPS devices in our Munich facilities, has motivated us to move BOINCSIMAP now immediately to new hardware at the University of Vienna. This hardware is brand new and became available last week. We will now setup the new boinc servers (BOINC server, download-/upload server and database server) and run a first small test in December 2010. If everything works fine, the first full run of the new servers will start around January 7, 2011 after the new year holidays. We expect then 1..2 months of continuous work, as there are the new proteins of three months plus a couple of new metagenomes.

There will be a new URL for the project, but we will also keep the current URL operational for a longer period.

Thanks to all friends of SIMAP for your great work, help and the many discussions in the previous years. We look forward to another productive era starting next year.

Best regards from Vienna

Seti seems to be having difficulties again. Servers are disabled/not running again. Nothing posted to SETI's front page yet. looks like it happened around one half hour ago from the router graph page.

For the last several months I have only sporadically had tasks from SETI. I get the message that "project has no tasks available." I haven't followed the posts here so don't know whether the problem is with my computer(s) or with the project -- any information out there?

Please read the previous post. AND follow the blue links.
The first place to look for project problems, is on the project site.

The SETI people have gone to a lot of trouble to explain just what is happening, and have 2 posts on their front page about the 2 different problems at present.

What happened?? Did SETI run out of data to be crunched? I haven't had a download in almost a month. I tried following the links but I keep getting a "server unavailable" or "no tasks available" message.

SETI@home

the following is from the front web page of SETI@home

The project is down while we remodel our database servers.
The machine that was running the main BOINC database has become too unreliable to use. The backup server does not have the capacity to run the project on its own.

The very good news is that we just ordered two new servers! One will be the new BOINC database server and the other will be the new back end science database server. Our capacity to both distribute and analyze our data will increase significantly with these new machines.

While we prepare for these new servers and get them going once they arrive, the project will be down. Although no new work will be distributed, all outstanding work will be uploaded and credited. This web site and the forums will remain up for most of the remodeling period.

Funding for the new servers has come entirely from very generous donations from the SETI@Home community. 28 Oct 2010 22:26:47 UTC ยท Comment

I am new to the BOINC home computer use and I keep geting a message that the system is offline or down at this time. If this is correct, do you know when it will be back up and running again?

Is CPDN having problems with trickle up messages? I am getting the following message

Fri Dec 3 22:38:26 2010 climateprediction.net Sending scheduler request: To send trickle-up message.
Fri Dec 3 22:38:26 2010 climateprediction.net Not reporting or requesting tasks
Fri Dec 3 22:38:27 2010 climateprediction.net Scheduler request completed
Fri Dec 3 22:38:27 2010 climateprediction.net Message from server: Server can't open database

Looks like a DB problem. I have at least 2 rounds of messages like this.
Any one know what is going on??

The server that handles trickles has a daily outage from about 2am to 8am UK time.

This is when the various scripts related to credits are run, and the server can't handle this load plus the other tasks, such as uploads and forum access at the same time, so it shuts down the user related functions.

I have noticed - my last contact was about 36 hours ago. The whole site is down.
