SIMAP appears to be totally offline. I cannot connect to the website and Boinc is in back offs for around 4 hour now.

RCN seems to be down (server and forums) from sometime before midnight Oct 7 (EEST). That had happened before, but it takes too long for this time. Any news?

I have the same question! Seems like it is a hard failure of some sort. Wish someone associated with the project would post something; or, at least have the BOINC Gurus get in touch with the project admins to find out what is going on.

SETI has been down for about the last 2 hours. Well, there's a surprise!

Seti's scheduler and forums are available for me.
If you have trouble reaching either, make sure it isn't something local.

CPDN main project

Milo said on 11 Oct:

'Climateapps2 is active again and there have been no reports of problems yet. Thanks for your patience during this outage.'

Jord,
As of about 1315 UTC SETI has been down. No homepage, forums or anything. Cricket graph shows everything flatlined. Did you refresh when you tried or just open the tab? A few people have mentioned it on Lunatic's site.

If you check the time I posted that it was up for me, you'll see I posted it before it went down. Yes, now it's down for me as well, but before that I had both scheduler and all forums (and not imagining things).

Edit: the forums are back up for me. And as it seems, the scheduler is also back.

SETI forums are down -- perhaps until tomorrow. That light folks were seeing over the weekend -- yup, oncoming train.

From the SETI homepage:

We had another mysql database crash (and recovery) this afternoon which delayed our usual outage chores - the forums will remain offline for at least a few more hours (maybe all night).

Sorry Jord, as BarryAZ pointed out SETI went down for a little while earlier. I missed that one. Then when you posted it had come back up. When I posted it was back down again for the count.

Has anyone got any info on Rectilinear Crossing Numbers (RCN)?

Been down a while now. Since at least the 7th Oct.

This morning the website is coming back as 404 rather than simply timing out as it was doing.

Thanks

That could be either good or nothing. Look, dist.ist.tugraz.at resolves as proxy-music.ist.tugraz.at. What is that proxy-music thing only admins of tugraz.at could probably know. I'm sure (I have logs) that yesterday approx. 09:30UTC dist.ist.tugraz.at wasn't reachable (whatever it resolved). Thus now it's reachable however empty. We can only speculate what that means.

Has anyone tried to reach anyone at RCN?

Hardware Problem

Dear participants of the RCN project,

the RCN server is currently down because of a hardware problem related to the RAID. We are currently working on fixing the problem, and the server will be up again as soon as we are done.

Thank you for your patience.
The RCN team.

Upload server kraken

Kraken has run out of disk space. It should have warned Milo before the danger threshhold was reached but didn't. Kraken is down so that data can be removed. FAMOUS models can trickle but not upload their files at the moment.

SETI@home

Projects are down due to a database machine crash.

The machine that serves the BOINC database crashed. The projects are down until the recovery is complete. The current database machine has become too unreliable to continue as the primary DB server. We are going to move this functionality to the machine that is currently acting as the replica server. This will be a temporary fix, as this move will leave us with reduced throughput capacity. We are ordering a new replacement sever. This purchase is made possible by generous donations from SETI@Home participants.

Gosh it seems that Climate has arrived at a space where disk storage limitation issues are in (to use an American term), 'whack-a-mole' mode.

That is, within a week or so of solving one out of disk space issue, another one (or the same one) shows up.

Here is hoping that there is a plan with the goal of achieving other than week to week storage solutions there.

It has to be frustrating for Milo to be in constant scramble mode for disk storage.

kraken is just one of several upload servers, and as such, will always be getting filled up. Then a few gigs of data needs to be moved to 'final' storage somewhere, where it will remain accessable to researchers.

OK -- but it does at least seem that one or another server is getting 'filled up' to the point of impeding the Climate project quite a bit more frequently of late -- say over the past two or three months.

With the long run times that Climate utilizes for work, it isn't really earth shaking (problems over at SETI might be perhaps galactic shaking), but it does seem to be getting a tad warm over at Climate <smile>.

GPUGrid.net

I'm not able to reach their home page. Does anyone have any info about GPUGrid.net ?

It started with

Storage server problem
Our 32TB storage server is offline. The sysadmins are trying to rebuild it but until then we have access to only the smaller storage. Some workunits cannot be sent.
gdf 17 Oct 2010 18:24:07 UTC

Now visible again on their front page. Some functionality is back, but their database server only seems to be partially working (can see account details, but not message boards).
