Does this mean that OpenGL is working okay on my machine?

Yup.

Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)

How much memory is on your GTX295?
Do you run Windows 7 with the Aero desktop?

Can you download GPUZ, unzip it and run it? Is anything out of the ordinary? Check the Sensors tab and see what the temps are saying, for instance.

This is quite frustrating.

I hear ya, but will stay around to see if I can make sense of it and solve it with you. :-)

Can you check what the settings are for the BOINC screen saver?
Desktop->Personalize->Screen saver->BOINC->click Settings. Please write down all the values of the sliders.

My video card has 1792 MB GDDR3 memory.

As I indicated in an earlier post, I do not use the Aero desktop because I don't like it. I have a plain, vanilla desktop and taskbar. It is Windows Classic, with no bells and whistles.

The settings for the BOINC screen saver were related in my original post on this thread. Now, of course, I have the screen saver turned off.

What is GPUZ?

I am confident that none of the temperatures in my CPU, GPU or MB are extraordinarily high. If I run a CUDA application, the GPU temperature increases, and the fan speed also increases accordingly. I am not running any graphics applications at this time other than the Windows 7 classic desktop.

When you installed BOINC, did you check the option to "Use the BOINC screen saver" in the installer?

ah, well it seems that when I install BOINC and I keep the screensaver checked it works.
But then I need to install grid republic client again since it wont work.
Doing so seems to remove the screensaver again.
I'll just install BOINC again and I just wont install the gridrepublic client.

But you can use BOINC to connect to Gridrepublic, so you don't really need to install their client. Attach to project->Attach to account manager->GridRepublic->fill in your email address and pasword that you used to register at Gridrepublic with.
