I have updated BOINC Manager 6.10.76 to the latest code, after working together with the developers to get the AV Event Log/SV Messages window bugs out. Also changed the mouse-over from "Client is processing results" to "Client is processing tasks", to be politically correct. ;-)

I've removed the executable download and instead added a zip file and 7-zip file. Both compressed archives contain a copy of sqlite3.dll for those that don't have it.

See this FAQ for the links and screen shots.

A new BOINC Manager 6.10.76 version 2. (Also called 6.10.76.2)
It's especially for BOINC 6.10.49 and above, since this client has new preferences in the form of network quota added to its advanced preferences.

Windows 32bit format only, zip compressed, contains a copy of sqlite3.dll, size 2.1MB: BOINC Manager 6.10.76.2

Having found a bug and working with the developers to squelch that one, I have rebuilt and redistributed BOINC Manager 76.2, in the same download slot.

The zip file no longer contains the sqlite3.dll as you do require a 6.10.49 client version or above to use all the preferences and options. Since you have one of them installed, you'll have sqlite3.dll already.

@ Jord,

Had an updating session on one of my Quads this morning. Installed

  • Berkeley BOINC v6.10.51
  • Your BOINC Manager 76.2
  • New NVidia drivers (197.13 --> 197.45)

I was watching your manager to check everything was working when the 'Communicating with Client' dialog popped up. This is incredibly rare on my systems (I run short caches - only about 20 tasks on the machine in total).

The screen stopped updating (because the dialog is modal, presumably), and I could see that it happened at the instant new work was allocated: additional empty rows had been painted on to the end of the task list, with gray/white backgrounds, but no text had appeared in the new rows. By the time I'd thought about it for a while, and clicked 'cancel' on the dialog, the new tasks had finished downloading and appeared for the first time in the Manager already with 'Ready to run' status. These were SETI tasks, seven of them, taking 10 seconds or less to download.

SETI tasks are very rare at the moment (the servers haven't had their weekly "weekend's over, get back to work" kicking yet), so I haven't been able to watch a similar event since with either your Manager or the v6.10.51 official Manager. So it may be (a) coincidence, (b) something about your build, or (c) an impending bug in the new 'Notices' style Manager, which of course hasn't been officially tested yet.

Latest update of 6.10.76.2 has update [trac]changeset:21412[/trac] included.
It will now show the messages of the download quota. (It's called 6.10.76.3 in About).

is that user friendly :?.

Depends on what the user wants. Upload/download despite having and pay extra then for going over the ISP set quota, or wait it out until the quota gets reset?

I have requested that the message on the pop-up is adapted to show what it is for, as at this time it doesn't say it. Plus its text will confuse people:

"Network activity is suspended.
You can enable it using the Activity menu."

I requested for either:

"Network preferences bandwidth limit exceeded: Network activity is suspended.
You can override it using the Activity menu."

or better:

"Network preferences bandwidth limit exceeded:
Network activity is temporarily suspended while waiting for Internet
Provider quota reset.

You can override it using the Activity menu -> Network always available."

If you think you can do better at explaining it in a compressed form, be my guest. Just complaining that BOINC has to follow the will of the user, when this preference is set by that same user to limit his bandwidth so he doesn't have to pay extra, is ridiculous. Please check what the message is for before blasting the developers.
