I tried to first install version BOINC 6.10.50 then 6.10.44, both as a update, then 6.10.43, as a new installation, after uninstalling the previous version. I keep getting a message that reads,

"The feature you are rying to us is on a
nework resource that is unavailable."

"Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a
folder containing the installation package 'BOINC.msi'
in the box below."

Even when I try treating BOINC as a new install by deleting the old installations..., it will not install, even in Safe Mode, new or earlier versions of BOINC. In all cases, I get the same error messages. What gives?

It won't be anything to do with the installation of the new version: it's the uninstallation of the previous version - which happens automatically as part of the process - which is causing the problem. And before you jump to conclusions, it's a glitch with the Microsoft Installer technology, not with BOINC: the 'feature' that is unavailable is the previous installation data.

The easiest way of sorting out a problem like this is to re-run the installer for the exact same version you were running before (I always keeps the download files, for precisely this reason). That should work, and offer to "repair" your current BOINC: once that's complete, the new version installer should work as well.

If Richard's hint doesn't work for you, try this answer at the BOINC FAQ Service.

Earlier today we pulled the last round of stable clients and rolled back to the stable clients that were available in early December.

A bug was introduced in 6.10.25 where the core client would continuously download new work from projects where the total GPU ram was enough to run the GPU app but not enough was available at run-time to actually run the application without crashing. This bug was fixed in 6.10.46.

As a result of having to pull the previous stable build we are moving forward with the 6.10.50 build as a potential release candidate build. I have adjust the test grouping to enable all of them now.

We really need to get a new stable version of the Mac client out the door, CUDA support for the Mac is not in the current stable Mac client.

Please report your results, good or bad, as quickly as possible.

Boinc 6.10.43

After installation my system started to act weirdly.
System would go to sleep immediately after BOINC start up. The system when running would go to sleep even if activity was going on ie mouse movement, keyboard activity anything else that should be be considered as system activity woul;d send the system to sleep mode.

Stopping BOINC put a halt to that. The system is absolutely useless if BOINC is running.

FWIW I am at 10.4.11 and running a G5 dual with 6 GB of memory.

Help!

I have not seen a reply to this and I have wondered if there is a solution or ?
Is it my problem or a BOINC issue or ?
I would like to continue to use BOINC but will not until I have this issue fixed or a suggestion to get around it.

Thanks,

Ed

I did forward your original post to the developer, but he's scratching his head as well, has never seen any of it on the G5 he does his tests with.

So.. Some questions then.
- Is that a desktop or laptop?
- If a laptop, is that when running on batteries or wall-outlet?
- What are your computing preferences with regard to only doing things when idle and such?
- Do you only have a problem with this BOINC, or also with previous versions?
- Do you have an Nvidia or ATI videocard and if so, what model?
- What are your Energy Saver and screen saver settings set to?
- Are you trying to let the computer go to sleep, or get the screen saver to kick in, or neither?

BOINC 6.10.51 released to public for Macintosh

We have promoted BOINC 6.10.51 for Macintosh to recommended public release. Thanks to all of you who helped test it. We now once again have an official public build for the Mac which supports CUDA. This is important, since several projects have CUDA tasks available for the Mac.

I don't quite get that. Is the thread title wrong?
At http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php version 6.10.18 is still the "recommended version" aka stable version.
Will this change? Or on which site is .43/.44 declared stable and downloadable?

See the first post of this thread, Boinc 6.10.43/6.10.44 was pulled because of a Bug, and the recommended version reverted back to 6.10.18 again.

Okay, thought so. Didn't know it was not possible to change the thread title. :-)

But not really understandable from first post. Well, that's me being german... :-D
