Today I have released Dotsch/UX 1.2. Dotsch/UX is a Linux distribution for BOINC which easily installs and boot from a USB stick, hard disk and from diskless clients and also has some interfaces to setup the diskless server and the clients automatically. For more informations have a look at http://www.dotsch.de/Dotsch_UX New features in 1.2 : • Build in NVIDIA CUDA support, a additional tool to enable and check the NVIDIA CUDA support. • Persistent Live CD mode for testing the distribution as Live CD and store the data on a USB stick/disk • Automated and semiautomatic backup of the BOINC client data and some other OS data • Included Ganglia for performance monitoring of the Dotsch/UX Grids • Pre Installed BOINC client 6.10.17 • Removed a lot of unneeded packages in the x86 and x64 distribution • A lot of bug fixes and enhancements Special thanks to all the peoples which supported and helped to make the new distribution possible ! |

I tried this distro, but was unable to make it do anything. It boots, fine, but whenever I try to log n and use it, I get nowhere! There's a user login screen, but no matter what I type, it goes nowhere. Have I missed something blindingly bloody obvious? I shoot cancer (686 Magnum) |

Hi There. Know somebody reads these comments, so here's my 2cents on DotschUX ALL versions. IT DON'T WORK when it comes to the internet!! I've burned and tossed at least 2dozen CDs/DVDs in the trash, and had one helluva time with the burns that actually installed. 3/4's of the installs needed a dozen reboots before something happened (like it loaded right thru the blue Dotsch desktop) and then paid hell to get it to connect. I recently acquired an 8core cruncher and tried it with v1.2x64. ANOTHER 100 hrs wasted, and guess what! No Internet. I even put in an old ethernet card to bypass the onboard card thinking cause it was old the drivers MIGHT be found easier. HaHaHa. I'm guessing that if i got a USpenny for every HOUR i've spent reading for answers, I'd have quite the cash stash goin' for me!! Anyway, now that i've mucked up at least a week of my time on this version, I'm going to a friends house to retreive a copy of W7. Screw Linux/Dotsch and all 900 variations of the theme. Thanks for all the reading material posted on your site... at times it WAS very helpful for a total linux newbee. Good luck to anyone who desires a 'plug'n'play' BOINC application. TC... Ol43 |
