I have the work buffer set to 10 days, but the most it will ever download is around 1.5 days of work. This is very annoying, since the computer is often left unattended, without an internet connection, for 5-7 days at a time. It's simply wasting electricity once it runs out of WUs.

This is not a function of the projects having work available or project-related quotas.

If I manually update all the projects, it will say "not requesting new work"

What are the project deadlines?

When it says "connect to the Internet every N days", set a realistic value. If you're offline for 7 days, set 7 days. Setting it too high may mean getting less work, because it may think that if you're going to be offline for too long, you won't be able to return the work in time for the deadline.
