I have an older PC I want to use solely for BOINC and some specific project. I installed just the Linux kernel on it (Debian distribution) with no GUI anything. Can I run BOINC command-line? If so, and to get a streamlined system, what's the best way to go about tweaking-down the kernel to run just BOINC? Thanks. foreach(lame noob in this.game){frag(noob);} |

I use this line on /etc/rc.local to start boinc on boot (below is *one* line) su boinc -c " cd ; . /etc/profile ; cd BOINC ; ./boinc -redirectio -allow_remote_gui_rpc -return_results_immediately & " and then use boincview to manage the headless cruchers over the web -or- the lan http://boincview.amanheis.de/ If this old pc is slow, say 100-800 mhz I suggest crunching simap on it I realized that is ease to meet deadlines on old/slow pcs with this project ... *application uses integer arithmetic, not float point http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/create_account_form.php?teamid=81 Click signature for team stats |
