Well, Eric was in working late last night, maybe someone came in early this morning to work on the problem.

Ok, seems to be back up now.

I was right, Eric is in and working already this morning. Here's hoping they can find and fix the problem quickly.

SETI@home

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 (4:30pm PST)

We're experiencing some problems with our web server, however the upload/download servers are up and running (and catching up from a long outage). We hope to have fully recovered sometime tomorrow (Wednesday).

SetiBeta is now pointed at Seti main and I'm being told I'm attached to Seti twice and using a wrong account key and URL. I hope this sorts out when the sites come back, or all the work I crunched for one is going to be for naught.

CPDN main project

There is a problem with the disk of upload server uploader.oerc.ox.ac.uk which, as you can see on the Server status page, is down. Milo has ordered a new disk from the manufacturer but this will not be delivered immediately.

This server takes the following files:

HadAM3P: zip file #1 generated at the end of the model. The other two files numbered 2 and 3 at the end of the file name upload to different servers.
HadSM: all three zip files, generated at 33.3%, 66.6% and 100% progress.
HadCM: (which some members may still be running) evenly-numbered files eg #2, #4 etc. They are generated at the end of decades. Odd-numbered files upload to a different server.

Files not listed should be able to upload to other servers. If you cannot upload any other files and they remain stuck in the Transfers tab please report this on the forum.

You could
* temporarily suspend HadAM3P models before they complete so they do not generate their files while the server is down. The same goes for HadSM3 models before they reach the end of their current phase (at 33%, 66% and completion). Remember that CPDN cannot send you new models while any of its tasks are suspended.
* or in the Boinc manager Activity menu temporarily suspend network activity.
* or do nothing and continue as normal.

All versions of Boinc v.6.10.xx have an extended deadline for uploads, I think two months starting from the first upload attempt.

All lower versions (eg v.6.6.xx, v.6.8.xx for Progress Thru Processors members, and all the older versions) have a 2-week upload deadline. If you have an older Boinc version, have files stuck in the Transfers tab and the outage is not resolved quickly you may consider upgrading your Boinc version before the deadline.

An addition to the above post:

Members with HadAM3P models will find that files #1 and #3 cannot upload and remain stuck in Transfers.

We will post news about the replacement of the uploader1.oerc disk as soon as we can.

Milo should have the new server disk tomorrow. He understandably tries to avoid working at weekends so uploader.oerc may not be up and running until next week.

Upload server upload.oerc is now working again and accepting uploads. It has a big backlog of large uploads to handle, so if some members with stuck zip files can wait a few hours before restarting Boinc network activity that will help.

Thanks to all the CPDN members who were so patient during the outage.

The server cpdn-upload1.comlab has filled up, and has shut itself down.
Data is currently being moved off to storage.

MW has server problems (starting about 3 hours ago).

Related to that, with MW offline for an indeterminate, unannounced outage, folks with ATI GPU's run over to their backup project -- Collatz.

With MW having about 10 times the user count, with a high concentration of high power ATI GPU's, the surge of traffic takes out Collatz as 'collateral damage'.

I REALLY wish there were more ATI GPU projects out there.

OK, fess up, who broke the Seti@Home forums? ;-)
Or was it the return of the banished that caused them to go down?

The rest of the project is still up, so it's probably a campus internet problem.

Einstein@Home has some problems with its mirrors, in approach to the new applications and work being released. Please see this thread for more information.

Seti@Home had massive upload problems the past couple of days, which have been fixed. Yet since midnight Berkeley time, the master database server froze up, needing a reboot and resync of its RAID array. Work is now slowly trickling out.

SETI is still not able to download any CPU tasks here.

As in:

3/19/2010 2:20:51 PM SETI@home Message from server: (Project has no jobs available)

But yes it finally downloaded more GPU tasks today. Finally!

SETI is still not able to download any CPU tasks here.

It's definitely not SETI's fault but that of your BOINC client, since CPU and GPU tasks are identical on the server. Only when assigned to a client, they get labelled.

So, obviously, your client doesn't request CPU tasks. You should, however, discuss this at the SETI forum, as, for one, there we can check your host OS, BOINC version and applications.

Gruß,
Gundolf

Data communication has been restored to SETI, but the websites all seem still to be down.
