That's your problem. You have installed BOINC as a service. Due to security reasons on Windows Vista and above, if you want to use the GPU, you cannot install BOINC as a service (or the protected application execution option).

To fix this, you will have to uninstall BOINC, reinstall it, then in the 3rd screen in the installer click Advanced and uncheck the option of "protected application execution", then continue the installation as normal.

Duh! I'd heard that and it didn't register. Thanks Jorg.
Now if they would just fix it. Or can I start the Boinc Client without starting the GUI? My headless machines (most of them) would like that. I guess I could set them up to do an auto-login, and then put Boinc.exe in the start menu (if Win7 still has one).

Or can I start the Boinc Client without starting the GUI?

Once you start BOINC, you can close BOINC Manager even on a non-service installation. When you then uncheck the option "Stop running science applications when exiting the manager", you will exit BOINC Manager and leave the client and science apps running.

Or you can just start Boinc.exe, yes. That may open a command line window though.
But in that case you can start Boinc (from a batch file) with the following line:

boinc.exe --detach

This will detach BOINC from the console.
