There only is a Windows version, but plenty of users got this working with Wine.

Message 58632 - Posted: 12 Dec 2014, 22:06:03 UTC

Hi Fred,
I would like to use your program, but I am unable to communicate with all my computers.
I have 7 computers at work and 5 at home, besides my personal laptop that I use to communicate with all of them.
For some reason (enterprise firewall?) when I am at work BoincTasks only finds one of the computers but not the others either anyone at home.
Is there a way in the program to bypass this problem?
Using a different protocol (ssh, vnc, http) as you can do with TeamViewer or other programs?

Thanks.

Thanks Fred!, I am working with the first one of them.
I could find it now, that is great, but for some reason appears as "not connected".
Let's keep trying.

Any similar solution for linux? 60% of them are Ubuntu.

Thanks!

One of the thing to check is the BOINC log on the linux machines.
See if the BOINC machine is in the allowed list (shows in the log) and if you see connection refused messages (in the log).
The BOINC client refuses a connecting if not allowed but shows it in the log anyway.

And any changes in the settings of the BOINC client need a restart of the BOINC client or even better of the machine itself.

Does your product offer a means to give any WU high priority?

I have a PrimeGrid WU that's 530 hours in and I want it done before the deadline. BOINC keeps putting it off leaving only hours of buffer before the deadline and the thunderstorm and power outage season is coming up.

I want a means to get any WU finished ahead of schedule.

Don't thinks so, I read that the latest BOINC client should handle this better.

There are 'ways and means', the manual, by suspending all ready to start tasks except the one you want to queue ahead. Before you set the 'switch applications every nn minutes' to some ludicrous long time, like 50000 minutes. When done, you suspend your least important/rush running task, and theory would suggest your 530 hour job will run in one session. After that, reverse the suspending of the other tasks.

Another theoretical is, even if booting, the tasks that have already got some runtime will be started first, including your long task.

Of course, if scheduler panic hits [Earliest Deadline First] and your big job is not highest priority, one that is in bigger rush will be put ahead, no matter what... lest you keep micromanaging the order of work as it would normally run... FIFO+Project weight and a few more things.

Thankyou! I wish I had talked to you two months ago.
I was just looking at that configuration and changed the switching to 360 minutes yesterday. The flash of creativity to think of that solution failed to hit me though (and the WU was done).

Something for Fred that bugs me: Have 4 clients in the net. When restarting BT on the controlling host, all remote histories of completed results recover properly per the settings [remove history after 120 days], except the localhost. This one always starts blank, and builds from scratch, until the next restart when it does it again and again. Occasionally get 'history too large', and then the localhost blanks too, but not for the remotes which also occasionally give that message. It just bugs me, makes no sense. Tried various recent versions, now 1.67 but the issue remains the same.

Thx.

P.S. Also tried different clients, now on localhost 7.6.1 x64_86. One remote with 7.6.2, the others with 7.2.42

Edit: Changed setting from 120 to 60 days. Got a warning that the older would get wiped, then said OK. Afterwards one remote host still showed history from 2/10/2015 [5 months to the day].
