Message 50985 - Posted: 23 Oct 2013, 18:57:29 UTC - in response to Message 50984.

Titles of buffer settings and functionality has changed since v7, where the second is "'Maximum' additional work buffer"... work is asked when the total buffer drops below minimum, but then if a project gives a limited amount say for instance 100,000 seconds when asked for 300,000 seconds, and the request lifts the buffer again above the minimum, no more requests will be issued. On clients with multiple active projects this is slightly more convoluted, also because the resource shares may vary, so total actual work cached can fluctuate quite a bit. Then there apparently has also been a 1000 WU per project hard limit introduced? Got a project with small tasks, users may see even more fluctuation... in the extreme, every task reported will initiate a new work call, yet the minimum never being reached. [my take on what could be seen].

Message 51055 - Posted: 28 Oct 2013, 9:01:56 UTC - in response to Message 50999.

Feature request/suggestion: So I sat there doing an Excel analysis, using conditional formatting to colour code rows, then using the colour filter to summary view certain events, when it occurred to me that the last week discovered message 'highlights' [bwilliant] could do with the same filter function in the message window... right click message window, colour pick filter and contract all matching events. Already done it to find a far-apart checkpoint series for a specific long running task, albeit you need to page through the log.

As an expansion on that, maybe in the Extra > Filter drop down menu add a free-form field to enable a quick-search on a special message/event.

thx

In other words a search function. I could select all matching lines that are found, so you can copy it to the clipboard.

Fred, however you implement a search-filter contraction function [to be able to copy/paste the list, I'm sure it will be very useful to many when reporting issues e.g.]

And, to add another feature request. We have a situation in a WCG Beta test where large chunks of CPU time goes missing at point of reporting. We have the great efficiency percentage during a run as displayed in the Tasks view. Depending on what [BOINC] throttle is set, for instance 60%, it would be nice if the user could define a % below which the efficiency % is highlighted. E.g. 100% CPU time is allowed and anyone going below 85% getting a red rim or background, similar to where the checkpoint intervals get over a certain time.

Now crux is, that throttles could be set differently for various devices [I saw in a Dr A presentation that sub-second throttling is being looked at], so for a 100% device you'd want it to highlight at X percent, but on a throttled device at Y percent. Any case, a form of highlighting if in-efficient at a user definable % would be great.

Thx

Now why has that monkey got this big grin on it's face... is it a Bonobo ;P

Great stuff. After some playing with the band ranges and entering

CPU: 90 GPU: 90 Project: World Community Grid

, not specifying a computer, had one task that was below 90 (actual 86%) getting a red background on the CPU%.

Bionctasks website has been down for about three weeks. Any idea when they will be back? Asking here AS forum is not available. Suppose to be loading an older version of database. Cant logon.

Just download the latest 1.58. While installing you see Version 1.581.
1.581 installer has the helper program toolbox.

I tried that twice BT still comes up as 1.58, not 1.581 and yes I downloaded the latest from the US site. http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/download_beta.html And I've tried both the US an Euro link, neither is 1.581, so unless I'm in the wrong spot on the site, I don't know what else to say. I looked in the file and there is no toolbox that I can see.

OK BoincTasks in 1.58 is identical to the one in 1.581, both are 1.58.
1.581 has this program BoincToolbox included.
This should explain things: http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/manual_net.html
Intended for new users / computers.

Toolbox isn't loaded here and I can't remember which file has the boinc password. Never mind I found the password, I still don't have the toolbox loaded in BT.

Ok I did find the toolbox, I can see it say 'yes,connected' and no toolbox, the password is there of course, then when it says 'yes,not connected' toolbox is not detected. I had to upgrade to 7.2.39(Boinc was nagging Me) and at first I downloaded the 32bit version by mistake, I fixed that with the 64bit version and created a remote_hosts.cfg file with this PCs ip address in it, which I'll need for the next two PCs I bring online, when I do have the PCs built that is and altered My cc_config.xml file to add the following on the bottom line(in bold)

<cc_config>
<options>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<max_file_xfers>24</max_file_xfers>
<max_file_xfers_per_project>33</max_file_xfers_per_project>
<allow_remote_gui_rpc>1</allow_remote_gui_rpc>
</options>
</cc_config>

well?

setup_32_64_boinc_tasks_1_5_8.exe is malicious, and Chrome has blocked it.

seems like boinctasks has been put on the no no list by someone somewhere....

Someone did that to the Seti@Home exe file once too, you may have to download BT with IE10 or IE11. I use Firefox x64 Nightly and I've never had a problem here downloading BT from Firefox.

It's not Chrome that blocks the download I just tried that on :
http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/download_beta.html

The installer is digitally signed so it should be fully trusted.
When you start the installer it should mark it as a trusted program.

useless use of time setting it up or it will work?

There shouldn't be any problem connecting from 1 or 2. Running BoincTasks on both computers at the same time should work.
The only problem I see it that the computers are on 2 different nets. You need to connect them somehow.
Or put them on the same net.
