Message 27114 - Posted: 6 Sep 2009, 19:45:58 UTC

I installed Boinc together with the Boinc manager.
At first everything worked. But then i wanted to move the working directory of boinc.
As i did not found a option to do that i simply uninstalled Boinc, did a restart and installed it again with the right options for the directories.

All that to see that the Boinc manager could not connect to the client. I tried then to start boinc.exe from the command line and it runs into a error.
I have copied the error log to http://pastebin.org/15462

Hope somebody knows what to do.
Thanks in advance.

is your firewall blocking boinc? is this a laptop or desktop? this is a weird combo of a machine(no offense).

the manager sometimes can lose contact with the client for various reasons such as heavy use, too many task in the cache.

list the first 50 lines as that site is nothing but trouble for browsers.

I tried it and disabled the firewall and started the boinc.exe again.
Again the same error.
Could it be that i can't start it without parameters?

I'm running it on a Windows Home Server with Power Pack 2 installed.

clean out the system again of the boinc files, heck manually delete the folders after the uninstall program is finished.

then reinstall the program, please be sure that you're not installing as a windows service.

Where is

Data directory: \\Server\Boinc

?

Same machine, a drive across a network? Never seen a path where there is no X:\...\BOINC kind of path.

that's sort of the problem, i have no clue as to where that would be on your system.. it's like if you hit another drive on the network when you hit install...

try uninstalling.

see if you see this pathway in your my computer window.

Thanks for all the help. It seems that it is not possible to have the working directory on a network drive when you can't see it in "my computer" in the installation.

Background: I have a Windows Home Server and installed there Boinc as it runs 24/7 and to not disturb the Drive Extender in it's work by saving the data in d:\shares\Boinc i pointed it to \\Server\Boinc which should be the right way.

But know, everything works. Thank you very much again.
