I'm having a problem with efficiency on my clients. The client will download as many work units as it can (200 limited by some shmem option in the config.xml file). It completes these workunits starts uploading the files. Only after it has finished uploading all the results will it request new work. Is there some way I can change this behavior (server side option, preferably) so that my clients are *always* chugging away at the work? Thanks |

Correction: it does not wait for the files to finish uploading to request new work, but it does wait a long time after the work has already been finished to start requesting new work. In the meantime, it's "requesting 0 seconds of work and reporting 5 completed tasks" while it uploads result units. Thanks for any help. |

With so little detail and since you get 'requesting 0 seconds of work', I can make 2 assumption. This is a message from an older Boinc manager, early V6, possibly V5, and you are attached to more than one projects. In which case this would be normal behavior. More details and info on your accounts would be nice. |

I don't have a boinc account, I've started a private boinc server and am using it to distribute work to our cluster. Unfortunately, the clients finish their work and remain idle for some period before requesting more work. Is there some option I can set to make them request more work as soon as they can? Thanks |

connect every xx days set it to .1 advance/preferences/network/ set connect about every to .1 and work cache to 1 day or higher depending on what type of wu it is.. warning, wu's that use a wrapper can sometimes overload a boinc manager in heay wu numbers. <report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately> in config file. this will make them report as soon as the file is uploaded. |

Thanks. I tried the adjustments you recommended, but I have noticed no change, unfortunately. |

It's not crunching numbers. It's uploading results, but not downloading new workunits to work on when it has nothing to work on. |

Perhaps some of the debug log_flags of cc_config.xml shed light on your problem. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) |

Ah, thanks. I will try the work_fetch_debug option out. |
